You leave the cave and walk into the sun. It's a beautiful day out; a girl with dark skin and long, black hair is perched on one of the rocks outside, plucking at a double-sided axe bass guitar and humming softly in tune with it. She looks... familiar, sort of; but maybe the blue flannel, star-printed leggings, and boots gives it away.



this was the only thumbnail i was able to finish shut up.


Off in the distance, you can see the looming buildings of a great city, partially shrouded in dark. The opposite way, you can see the towering castle and tree that make up the Candy Kingdom, bright and soft in the sunlight.

Req looks up as you approach and stops playing, smiling.

"-- hey! Long time no see! You shoulda told me you were comin' by, I woulda got everyone I could together for a party or somethin'."

and her whole face lights up, as she starts to stand.

"Kitty, hey!"

She immediately closes the distance and gathers her up, hugging firmly; she's warm throughout, from both the sun and her beating heart.

"Mm, just practicing... I thought you didn't get off until later, baby. You shoulda told me."

She startles, jumbling the notes a bit, but whips around to look.

"-- Sabre!" she says, with genuine surprise and pleasure. "You're back already!"

"From your adventure with Kohime! I didn't think you'd be back so soon."

But she stands and closes the gap between them to gather her into a hug; her body's warm, warmer than it's even been.

[Look, we just aren't talking about any residual flushing, it's hot out, so surely that is it. She glances over to Req and back, not as off-handedly as she would like]

Yeah. And we'll need some conclusive evidence or whatever, right? So we take some time, make a case, and then...do the thing. Later.

On the return from Candy Kingdom, Nemesis isn't exactly sure if she can keep from being noticed, but she doesn't try to be seen--less to be sneaky, and more because she wants to see Req's demeanor--generally just watch her in the sunlight.

Requiem remains where she is, seemingly just enjoying the warmth of the sun and softly humming or singing along with her tune.

Sometimes she pauses to peek at her phone, or text someone, or stretch, or get up for a moment to stretch her legs...

Just normal, relaxed things. She doesn't notice you, though.

Nemesis just sits and watches her, a soft, uncertain look on her face.

But eventually she shakes herself back to standing--forces herself to start walking for the city.

Nemesis stays quiet for the most part, following Req’s lead to the cave and the house.

You're walking along when your foot suddenly hooks against something and makes you trip and fall into the dirt, oof. Your pride probably hurts more than your face but that's gotta be a close second.

Req pauses to turn back to you, alarmed. "Woah-- you okay?"

When you look back to see what you tripped on, it's a gold crown.

It takes her a moment to recover; it’s been quite some time since she last could trip so it’s a bit of a shock (Stability! How could you forsake). It also occurs to her to worry about all the stuff she’s already brought, hoping it hasn’t just come spilling out over the path, but—-

“The heck’s that?” She frowns at the crown, then hesitantly reaches for it.

Req had been about to reach down to help you up when you grab the crown.

It's sharp, with three red gems laid into it. The feelings you get from this are... cold. you shiver, and feel desperately alone while you hold it.

This doesn't belong here.

Requiem backs up a step, quickly.
