That's sort of what bothers me. I actually thought that the commoner girl was being framed first, either because she's a competitor who's easier to get rid of than the other girls, or because she would be a convenient scapegoat who can't exactly defend herself from accusations by three girls of nobility. If it was just about stealing some shiny things for whatever reason, there's no reason to attract attention by messing up the classroom. That only gets more people snooping around.
So to me, it feels less like someone's going out of the way to give Venus and the other girls their comeuppance and more like someone's trying to be opportunistic. Why revenge now, especially since Venus has been doing better and one of the other girls even got punished for what happened?
