[ you open your eyes to find yourself in a room that might look familiar if you just so happened to be a certified zombie survivalist. however, if you were lucky enough to avoid the zombie meet & greet, then welcome to the dankest heckhole in tokyo-f. ]

[ the overhead lights flicker often enough to instantly grind your gears, while simultaneously doing next to nothing to illuminate the dilapidated little room. though a chorus of moans and groans rise from outside, all the doors and windows are securely barricaded, making the shambling monsters a non-issue... though it's possible their existence alone may put you on edge. ]

[ or maybe that's the -fsssst- sound, a subtle hissing coming from what could have passed for fire sprinklers. for the duration of the game a colorless and odorless gas is going to be filling the room, one that clouds judgements and exacerbates anxiety. but, hey!, that's what the janky table and busted chairs in the corner of the room featuring cold tea and dry biscuits is for - a carefully curated space for you and yours to kick back, relax, and KEEP TALKING. ]

[ the center of the room is where the main event sits, a BOMB, with several thick cords snaking out from it connecting to a bunch of different buttons. the entire thing is housed in an unbreakable glass cube, with only the buttons in reach of your grubby hands. a tv screen is suspended overhead, currently displaying the rules & winning conditions, but that's all about to change... ]

[ in the meantime feel free to enjoy a particularly messy wall, one stained with all sorts of things from the last bunch that tried ~~and failed~~ to win, ew! ]

Something tells me this isn't going to be a lot of fun.

These Mademoiselles de Pourriture have provided us with another heart-pounding scenario!

I missed whatever game they engaged us with before. This one certainly seems as though... it will be something.

Any thoughts as to the puzzle?

We'll jus' have t'do our best.

What do you make of the scrambled messaged?

I'm afraid I am more inclined to nature and the arts, myself. How does one go about solving a cipher, if it is such a puzzle?

[Starts writing the phrase they are meant to decode down, at least! "MYWWYXKVSDI SC K MEBCO. MYCYXKXDC KBO K ZBSCYX. DRKD GRSMR EXSAEOVI BOWKSXC GSVV KSN IYE."]

Maybe it's not completely scrambled? The letters in red could be "Round I."

Or maybe it's a shift in letters?

The letters are clearly off. But...

[ Hold on. She's writing out the alphabet. And then... counting first forward ten for a couple of letters. And then... backwards. ]

. . . I think we need to count backwards. Count by ten. Look.

You two have an instinct for puzzles it seems!

[Finishes replacing the letters and reads out:]

"Commonality is a curse. Consonants are a Prison. That which uniquely remains will aide you," is what the mademoiselles have conveyed.

So we're not touchin' dupes or consonants, then?

[ With a snicker-snack, the wire attached to the chosen button is cut. All that's left to do is wait.

That seems sensible to me! So that eliminates L K and D. And then for commonalities... .. [squint] the O is round like the D! [um]

[ She points up to the letters in red.]

Both of these were ten letters out from the beginning of the sentence. So I just thought to start there. It's hard to say, though. Let's finish the rest.
