Note: please be as cryptic as possible regarding any specific actions your character takes when discussing them in the game channel to avoid influencing everyone else!
Well... I've had enough of that. I'm tired of seeing all of you suffer. All of you, with your talk of self-sacrifice and ideals... You never think about how others will feel when they see you like that. And either way, it's easy for you to think that way, because you have somewhere to go back to if we ever get out of here.
[he fixes his gaze on some faraway point]
My life depends on this tree. But even so, I won't lie... Sometimes I wonder, what if I took my sword and cut it down myself...?
[he stands up, glancing up at the trunk]
That's why I'm the one who has to look after this tree. None of you will do it, and it's my way to atone. This is not something imposed on me-- I'm a criminal, so the Taboo Index doesn't apply to me anymore. This a Calling I chose for myself, out of necessity.
It is because I think of others that I am not dead yet. [ but he shakes his head— is now the time? ]
So your calling is, as you have decided it, to destroy things you hold dear because you judge it necessity? Nothing you have said has made me understand why this is your necessity. I am apparently insensitive and thick-headed both. I told you this before, I do not understand others. But still, I wish to. If you deny my request, then that is that, I cannot press you further.
[ he finally removes his hands from his eyes, blinking if possible to see if he still has vision in both. ]
[ He takes his hand and climbs to his feet, with a small exhale of relief at still having his vision. ]
If you need aid, I will offer it. I cannot guarantee what you and I think is for the best is the same, but I will do all under my power not to betray you.
It will be a lot of work to bring the tree back to normal... What will I do...
[then he shakes his head at himself and turns to talk to shu instead]
I can't ask you to put yourself in danger for my sake, though. I don't want to see you in danger, and you don't even have a weapon. Besides, you'll need to eat something to regain your health... You should go to the village and spend the night there. There are no hotels in Rulid, but if you speak to Sister Azalia at the Church, she will help you.
Don't tell her too much. If you just mention that you need a place to stay, she won't pry. And if anyone asks... you can say you're a Lost Child of Vecta, and no one will think you're strange.
[You make your way back to the road (hopefully without much trouble).
When finally approach the entrance to the village, which is a perfect fit for the Japanese idea of what a medieval European village should be, a young man appears seemingly out of nowhere, blocking the way between you and Civilization. He rests his hand on the hilt of his sword and glares at you.]
How do you get lost so bad you end up in another village? Guess there's dumb people everywhere, eh? Go in, boy, you're in luck. You're in time for the festivities so you'll get free food and drink tonight.
[The main street seems to lead to main square, and also to the tallest building in the village-- you can see it from where you are, and it looks like a church! There is a big bell on top of it. You can also go right, although you have no reason to do that, or follow the smell of bread if you're hungry, but you're Shu so rustic bread is probably not for you.]

...if anyone thought he wasn't going to follow that, well. ]
Some suffering must be endured for the sake of certain ends. If I was able to reach you, then I will not regret it.
[ his voice is a little weak, but he smiles at Sol. Did he help him, at all? ]

he sighs]
I've been trying to find a different way. That's why I've been taking memories... to be able to understand the answer I found right before I died.
[he holds out his hand, offering to help Shu up]
But by doing that, I only made everything worse. Now everything is freezing, and I don't know how to stop it. And maybe... I can't do it alone.

[he moves]
Why're you all the way up here, anyway? We don't get many visitors this up in the North.

I suppose there is no harm in checking. I will be on my way.

The church looks a little smaller than it did from afar, and less grandiose than one would expect. Its doors are closed.]

Yes? How may I be of assistance?

Very well. If it is for one night, you are welcome to stay with us. I will not turn away someone in need.
