Gloom: Taisho Roman Revolution

[The old-fashioned writing desk in the center of the room carries several blank pieces of paper, a fine wooden pen, and a piece of parchment covered in writing. When you take a look, you find the following epigraph in a vibrant scrawl:]

Congratulations, future wordsmiths, and welcome to your first exercise in the creation of a true masterwork of tale-telling. This evening you'll be penning a terrific tragedy, starring the family of unsympathetic ne'er-do-wells provided to you.

Your goal? Why, to construct the best story your mind can conceive, of course - and make their lives as entertainingly miserable as possible before writing one of them directly into an early grave.

[ she's still not coordinated with these legs even when her bones are all intact. she steps out of the way again but not quite fast enough; her "foot" gets caught just enough to send her teetering backwards. she does catch herself partway with her remaining arm so it's not as bad a fall as it could have been, but the air does leave her lungs as her ribs hit the ground with a resounding crunch.

she doesn't make a sound.

she takes another second or two to blink the stars out of her vision and then props herself up on her elbow and clumsily gets back up. ]

You really are pretty strong, huh?

[he's already halfway off the ground again]

Obviously.

[ she keeps backing away, level and unhurried steps ]

But I'm not dead.

I can fix that.

[obviously not, but hey]

[ deliberately straightens to a fully upright posture, with a small chorus of muffle cracks ]

Like I said, help yourself.

[how does one hold a tonfa with a broken hand? idefk but Skylark is, and he's also lunging for her, though it's more of a fall than a lunge, as he's not entirely in control of his direction]

[ this time she's a lot more prepared and steps out of range without much trouble. how long can we keep this up ]

[for about as long as it takes for Hibari's body will stop moving against his will. until then, he's surprisingly agile (as in, still slow but moving) for someone who shouldn't be able to stand on his own two feet.

he's also aiming to trip Ao up, aiming for weak spots, injured spots]

[ there's something really annoying about this, the fact that he's so resilient. she's managing to avoid him mostly because she had a head start and keeps her distance well, but she's still uncoordinated even uninjured, and she has to catch herself out of stumbles and near-misses over and over. her fake smile grows but there's an increasingly transparent knife-like sharpness to it

and of course, she starts talking again. ]

You're really struggling~ Isn't that just sad? I'm just a cripple, you know? When you think about it, if you're a predator and I'm a pack animal, aren't I exactly the kind of straggler who makes an easy target?

[that's the kind of smile he hates the most, and while his own is razor sharp, it's not amused]

Oh, I don't discriminate. You're annoying. The kind of herbivore who hides behind words and trickery. Being a "cripple" is hardly a set back.

[by all accounts he is one himself right now too. and also definitely taking advantage of her tripping up, aiming a tonfa at her side, though whether he'll hit or not depends on if she's fast enough to avoid it]

[ she's not that fast. her bones make another cacophonous crunching sound under the hit, but she just keeps stepping away, without even a flinch this time ]

I think you don't know what animals are really like. Let alone humans.

[he narrows his eyes, annoyed at her lack of reaction, though more so at the way she's still as resilient as he is]

Do I look like I care what other people think?
