Gloom: Taisho Roman Revolution

[The old-fashioned writing desk in the center of the room carries several blank pieces of paper, a fine wooden pen, and a piece of parchment covered in writing. When you take a look, you find the following epigraph in a vibrant scrawl:]

Congratulations, future wordsmiths, and welcome to your first exercise in the creation of a true masterwork of tale-telling. This evening you'll be penning a terrific tragedy, starring the family of unsympathetic ne'er-do-wells provided to you.

Your goal? Why, to construct the best story your mind can conceive, of course - and make their lives as entertainingly miserable as possible before writing one of them directly into an early grave.

If we're presented with the option of ending the game before more people get hurt, then why wouldn't we take it?

I agreed to play high cards because I wanted us to survive, but if we end the game with what we have right now, we can heal quickly with that and stop others from acquiring more and more injuries.

We still survive and prevent any more needless suffering.

As I said, others have the option as well. If we use one of our choices for something that won't give us any points, even if we're in the lead right now, we could easily be beaten because of that. Half the teams are going to be thinking the same thing you are and want to end it as well.

We have no idea if anyone else has drawn a Death Card.

No, we don't. But again, I'm sure there are plenty of them to go around so we can assume it's likely. If I'm wrong, and we're the only ones to have used one, I'll gladly concede to do things your way from the start next time.

I'm not going to agree to that. That's not to say that others might not play a death card too, but it doesn't mean we are wrong for trying to put an end to things.

And it doesn't automatically mean we'll lose, either. We can't know for sure.

Each game is different, so we'll have to access things differently each time. But whether or not I agree with your gameplay or strategy, I'll at least listen carefully to your thoughts and consider things.

Well forgive me for being blunt, but I think you're trying to play the martyr. And I don't get the impression that's worked out in the past.

You can think what you want.

Regardless, it's how I feel at the moment.

Then there's nothing more to say. Let's just hope it works out.
