POISON GAME: BAD END=DEAD END

[ The room is plain, white walls and white ceiling, except for the steel-panel flooring. There are three metal stands rising out of openings in the floor, each of which carries a glass vial on top. One of them just holds water. Of the remaining two, one contains a pale pink, opaque liquid with a creamy consistency; the next is tinged barely yellow like a weak tea, and would be almost completely transparent but for the pulp and fibers mixed in, drifting through it.

Both have flowers floated across the surface: the first a tiny sprinkling of cherry blossom petals; the second a small, but whole, bloomed lotus. They're cute and smell nice. ]

I mean if everyone plays nice all there's going to be to drink are antidotes anyway.

I don't even think anyone would send us a poison, I just hate not getting a choice.

[ He leans against Phoenix again. ]

You get a minimum of three days before taking one for the team again, or whatever.

[Runs a hand through his hair :(]

[ He sighs softly at the contact. ]

So tomorrow then?

[ He's kidding, mostly. ]

Yeah, yeah sure, tomorrow, if everyone else gets their turn by then.

When did we decide on turns?

Well we sure didn't decide on "Sanguine takes it every time".

I'd be fine if we did. I don't want any of you guys to get hurt.

Yeah well I wouldn't be. Would you be fine with me taking it every time? Or anyone else taking it every time?

What makes you think it's so much better just watching than it is getting hurt? If you think it's fine for the people who have to see it happen, you're way off base.

[ He's quiet for a long moment. ]

....You're right. I'm sorry.

[Raking a hand through his hair.]

You don't have to apologize. But I'm going to be really pissed off if you get all martyr. Literally no one wants you to take a hit for us, so acting like it's better is just going to make me mad. We might be resigned to us all taking some damage now and then, but don't get eager for it okay? Have some desire to protect yourself if you want to actually protect us, too.

It's not that I'm eager for it. I don't want to die, I just....

[ Don't care what happens to himself. He doesn't finish that sentence though, and switches tracks. ]

I'll work on it.

Okay. It's not like I don't get the minimizing damage to others idea either, but... We're in this together as a unit, everyone gets a say in how we handle things. Including in whether we're ready to see you get hurt again. And we're not. We're never going to be, but we're definitely not right now.

Okay.

[ He moves to press his forehead against Phoenix's. ]

...Okay.

[Gonna hug him.]

[ He hugs Phoenix back, melting into it a little. He's so tired and stressed and all of this is exhausting. ]

[Yep just gonna pet him now.]

[ He makes a sleepy murmur and shifts his head slightly to lean into it. ]
