soap opera game, group 5
[In your rooms, you start off on the patio of a different large, fancy family estate house: there is a pitcher of sweet drinks as well as glasses sitting on the patio table, as well as a binder labeled ROLES.
the rest of the neighborhood (and the town beyond the neighborhood) is foggy, indistinct at first, and the exact contents inside the house are misty as well, until you choose your Roles and the props from your role. Once you have selected, the rest of the set takes shape: everything you need (or want) is there, regardless of how ridiculous.]

Re: Scene: The Office
Hello? Are you still open? I demand service!
Re: Scene: The Office
Hey--you can't be in here! I-I mean, we closed like four hours ago, so I'm afraid I can't help you... Wasn't the door locked?
Re: Scene: The Office
Re: Scene: The Office
Re: Scene: The Office
I just know you can make the best smoothies in the whole wide shop.
Re: Scene: The Office
[But rather than seguing into a montage or a musical number, she continues]
But I don't have my smoothie license yet... I'm still in training. So even if I wanted to--and we weren't closed--and you were allowed to have dogs in here, when you aren't--I wouldn't be allowed to use the Blendomatic... I'm sorry, sir.
Re: Scene: The Office
A gift is a gift, darling.
What's the law to say that you can't use your god-given talents? Show them all what you're made of. Show them all that smoothie licenses are a thing of the past. Break down the barriers set down by our forefathers!
Re: Scene: The Office
That's sweet to say...
[Then pulls her hands back, clearing her throat]
A-anyways, the barrier set by your father, ie my boss, ain't really one I can break down, even for you. I really need this job, so...
Re: Scene: The Office
[Pats her cheek, affectionate]
Just get started on my smoothie, darling, and I'll have talked him around by the time it's done.
Re: Scene: The Office
[But she looks longingly at the Blendotron, and the apron she can imagine her name embroidered on]
...Hold my broom, will you?
[Heads to the counter to wash up]
Re: Scene: The Office
It's a complicated order, darling. Think you're up to it?

Re: Scene: The Office
What can I say, darling? There's a lot of things I like.
Re: Scene: The Office
...O-okay. I'll give it a shot.
[Pulls away, beginning to slice open fruit and dice it into the blender]
I've wanted to become a smoothie master since I was old enough to press a switch. Even after--the accident--I knew it was the only thing I wanted to do with my life. I've been practicing at home...but this's the first time I've been able to use materials as fancy as this.
[Marvels at the quality of the knife, the cutting board, the gleaming power blender]
...You never wanted to follow in the family business?
Re: Scene: The Office
Daddy has his hands in about twenty-five different shady enterprises he thinks I don't know about. I've been taking a hand in about half of them behind his back, since I was thirteen.
Re: Scene: The Office
Re: Scene: The Office
All of these top notch ingredients, all of this glistening cutlery: bought with blackmail money.
Re: Scene: The Office
...No, that can't be right. He was a friend of my family's, before the accident. I remember him visiting the shop every week. I--always figured that's why he made a shop of his own, from his friendship with my father...
[Frowns]
If you guys're fighting or something, leave me out of it.
Re: Scene: The Office
I love my daddy with all my heart. He's been nothing but good to me. But I'm not blind, you know. And you shouldn't be, either. There's a seedy underbelly to all this. No matter how pretty something is on the surface, there's always another layer down.
Re: Scene: The Office
[Smiles at him, guileless]
Re: Scene: The Office
And you, my darling, have talent, and promise, and a shiny new smoothie shop to showcase your ability. So don't trouble yourself too hard about where it all came from, hm?
Re: Scene: The Office
[Falters, looking down at her mismatched hands for a long beat. Then she steels herself, gripping the blade again--tearing through the pineapple]
...Yeah. I'm gonna follow my dream, no matter where it leads.
