IMPOCALYPSE
BATTLE MECHANICS
Note: characters that are heavily injured may acquire corruptions. There will be heavy maiming.
- This is a turn-based fight. PCs will take their turn, the boss will react, and then the boss will take their turn. Players will react and take their turn, and so on and so forth.
- You may take up to six actions in one turn, including dodge. You may attack up to 6 times if you're not dodging, and you can attack even if you are dodging or fail to dodge. If a swing delivers more than one attack (throwing multiple projectiles at the same time) then it's counted as one "action".
- With every strike/blow/attack, .roll 1d6 twice (or !2d6. MAKE SURE TO DO IT THIS WAY BECAUSE NADEKO IS A TRAITOR. The first dice determines whether your attack succeeds or fails, with 1-3 as fail and 4-6 as success. The second dice determines how much damage you inflict on the boss. Please include both numbers with your comment on your turn.
- Roll for every strike, not for every turn. If your character decides to shoot 4 times in succession, roll a 2d6 for every bullet.
- Green text can be dodged, but red text is guaranteed damage. Dodge by using a 1d6, 1-3 as fail and 4-6 as success.
- UNIT ABILITY MECHANICS ARE HERE, but please note: this is not the end-all be-all of how these powers can be used, and these are not the only powers that can be used in a fight, these are just the ones that affect rolls specifically. The session's runner always has the final say, so ask if you want to do something cool but you don't think it's street legal. (It probably is.)
Note: characters that are heavily injured may acquire corruptions. There will be heavy maiming.
EFFECTS LIST
- Black substance, both sticky and acidic
- A sticky substance that seems to cling to everything it touches, and is impossible to pull off. It melts through flesh, but the more it melts, the more it seems to become absorbed. Sufficient absorption of this substance in any capacity (skin absorption, digestion) will result in corruptions that may be permanent. May be removed by severing the affected area, or by bringing the affected area to the deadzone.

PLAYER (RE)ACTION
Re: PLAYER (RE)ACTION
Meanwhile Cardinal starts loading again, aiming for the eyes on the ogre: (hit 1 | dmg 5; hit 1 | dmg 1; hit 2 | dmg 3; hit 5 | dmg 5)]
Re: PLAYER (RE)ACTION
Shit.
[ She barely dances her mare out of the way (4), but both moms are safe from the tail swipe. We've all learned a valuable lesson about proper mmo raid dragon positioning.
Her ears aren't so lucky, though (2; 2), and she lets out a sharp cry as both eardrums burst.
Well, have it their way. She uses Cut-Tongue Sparrow to blind the nearer of the two ogres, then passes the reins to Kir. ]
Silver Lady, I hope you can ride horses as well as you can Gaia, because I'm entrusting Kuroyuri to you, now.
[ Then she leaps off, Juniper Tree coating her skin as a gust of wind and petals catches her to close the distance while staying clear of the electrified ground.
Her naginata whirls in a flurry of strikes, catching the dragon, once, twice below the chin, before coming in a soaring arc downward against the back of its neck.
hit 5 | dmg 2, 4 | dodge 5
hit 5 | dmg 1, 5 | dodge 5
hit 6 | dmg 2, 4 | dodge 5 ]
Re: PLAYER (RE)ACTION
[ oh whoops they're getting thwacked in the back of the head by a dragon tail please hold, ]
Re: PLAYER (RE)ACTION
[ A 6 means his Polarize dodge continues to work, this time landing cleanly on his feet in front of the gym's doors. The screech however, with a 2 for left ear, 6 for right ear means he only manages to cover up one ear with a hand, the other unfortunately turned toward the dragon and receiving a deafening blow. ]
[ Sho sends his assistant to do another dive at the ogres, attempting to sweep their feet out from under them (Hit: 6 || Dmg: 6, Hit: 5 || Dmg: 2) with the aim of getting them prone for the fighters and buy some time to finish off the dragon. ]
[ Sho himself keeps well and away from the dragon, using Polarize again on the two spears inside it to pull them towards each other, dragging through whatever parts of the dragon's body they embedded themselves in (Hit: 5 || Dmg: 4, Hit: 3 || Dmg: 1). ]
Re: PLAYER (RE)ACTION
they are now in charge of a horse, and have not ridden since they were 10, but hey they told Rye motorcycles are just metal horses and while that's not true when it comes to driving, they're good enough at both their rustiness isn't too much of a detriment -
Until they lose an eardrum (5, 2) and then get stabbed in the back by a spike on a dragon tail (2)
but they're still on the horse, at least! and did you know that if motorcycle archery is just like horseback archery, then that must mean -
4 to hit, 5 damage!
5 to hit, 3 damage!
5 to hit, 6 damage!
- horseback archery is just like motorcycle archery? they even manage to (via dumb luck) avoid 3 instances of Lightning Water! (4, 4, 6) ]
Fuck off this city only has fucking room for one or two or three or four dragons and none of them are you!
Re: PLAYER (RE)ACTION
An owl swoops down to deposit both a rifle (??) and a couple boxes of ammo (????) in front of her and she... stares for a long moment before she grabs them, straightens up with a labored exhale to look over the weapon, eyes a little hazy-- hesitates, a long moment, before completely deafening herself with Cut-Tongue Sparrow because trying to concentrate through the incessant, painful ringing is NOT helping.
But once that's done-- once the gun's her only focus-- it's almost second nature. A little awkward... a sense that this specific model isn't something she's used to, but she manages quickly enough to load it, raise it up, aim-- and shoot quickly at each of the ogres, since the dragon is basically dead.

good fucking lord. this gun sucks. ]
BOSS REACTION
Cardinal manages to hit Ogre #2 square in the eye and Amaranth's Cut-Tongue Sparrow completely blinds it and Ogre #1, leaving them both vulnerable to be toppled from underneath by Shogun's assistant. Honestly the moving around this much super didn't help Cypress with her shots, but at least one of them hit Ogre #1. ]
BOSS ACTION
Whether you hit the demons or not, they both explode into tiny hands that reach out to you, grabbing for everyone in the vicinity. One hand rips a fistful of flesh from Cypress while one hand crushes Cardinal's ankle, acidic black substance sloughing off the arm to burn through their foot. ]
PLAYER (RE)ACTION
Re: PLAYER (RE)ACTION
so they pull out a deadzone mud covered knife from a wrist sheathe and start stabbing at the hands.
4 to hit, 4+2 = 6 damage!
5 to hit, 4+2 = 6 damage!
1, miss ]
Re: PLAYER (RE)ACTION
Cardinal stabs themself again while their feint moves in, and as soon as the blade is planted Cardinal warpstrikes to it and whips out a flurry of blows (hit 3 | dmg 4; hit 4 | dmg 1+2 hvnmud | dmg 1; hit 2 | dmg 6)
Re: PLAYER (RE)ACTION
They take that moment to reload another 6 bullets-- unfortunately being deaf does not help her notice the hand ripping at her until it's already too late, and she... to her credit, doesn't scream. She grits her teeth and tightens her jaw as that bark and flesh is torn away from her arm, bleeding freely, the only sound she makes is a sharp noise of surprise and pain.
She snatches up one of her knives again with her good arm, whips it around, and stabs the sharp end down and again as hard as she can to try to kill the closest hands.
5 hit, 6dmg/2 mud dmg/4 extra dmg
5 hit, 6 dmg/1 mud dmg
(and 4, 4 for avoiding being electrocuted for both of those attacks. HEH) ]
Re: PLAYER (RE)ACTION
Not that she cares, once she sees what they've done to Cypress and Cardinal. With a roar of fury, she summons up the holiest-looking illusion she can think of:
Around and behind her is a burst of sun-gold flame, backed by the red colors of dawn and shot through with that same quality of light she recalls from that time there was a crack in Imeeji's sky.
Her naginata slashes first one demon-mass and then the next, and again, and again.
Left Ogre

hit 4 | dmg 4, 5
Right Ogre
hit 1 | dmg -
hit 4 | dmg 1, 6

6 | let me know if I should roll three more times ]
Re: PLAYER (RE)ACTION
[ Sho's just gonna. Keep an eye on that dragon, leaving one spear in it and using Polarize to bring the other back up to himself. He reforms the large spear into a thin shield and a series of smaller, knife-sized spears. He sends two of them, one by one, out with Polarize again to embed themselves into any hands coming his way, the first landing its mark but the second missing (Hit: 4 || Dmg: 6, Hit: 3 || Dmg: 6), leaving Sho to duck behind his shield. ]
[ And... okay that's too many hands. ]
Fire in the hole!
[ Because his assistant is getting an overcharge via Telekinesis, turning into a fiery mass high in the air before suicide diving itself into the mass of hands that are furthest possible from people, sorry for possible splash damage (Hit: 6 || Dmg: 5, 6, 6). ]
END
No, it might have been possible, but the hands all stall, freezing in place with Amaranth's illusion. It doesn't take long—there's no holy essence behind the illusion—but just that moment is enough.
Blow after blow, they're repelled—then, Shogun's technobird makes the personal sacrifice to destroy their remaining flesh.
In summary, the ogres are fucking dead.
Some black fog remains in the air, swirling before dissipating . . . ]
