Then there’d be nothing left to fight over, no one too strange or disturbing who’d need to be cast out by the rest, no doubts to be had or questions to be asked - what’s the problem?

... that's not what I want. And even if I wanted that, even if everyone wanted the same things there would still be fighting. There's always fighting and disagreements. Even if everyone were to suddenly become one person with the same likes and the same dislikes they would still disagree with themselves. That's just how people are. They can't even be happy with themselves.
