When you close your eyes, bone-deep fatigue crashes over you like a wave—almost like it was just waiting to catch up to you the minute you stopped moving.

Within the darkness, you can just barely hear the echoes of distant voices, too faint to identify . . .

"Jealous of his normalcy? Maybe just a little."

"Man Eater is so scary! Man Eater is a killer! It's all very alarming but. . .that's all there is, isn't it?

Neeheehee, brutish as you may be, someone like you will never be more than that. You'll kill, and you'll die. Over and over, until it's permanent some day."

"And you're the same... Hitoshiki! The truth is you're just a serial killer who's only good for killing—so why are you going to school like some normal kid?! Leading a dual life when you don't even have a dual personality—it's not fair! Why only you?! It's not fair!"

"It's better not to fight, sometimes. I feel kind of sorry for you..."

"So what it comes down to is this. Would you rather stay what you are, or be happy?"

Gradually, those voices blend into the hum of a bustling crowd... naturally enough to make you wonder if perhaps you were just hearing things, after all.

"Hmmmm." She has to think about that for a second. "Whatever Mr. Fox tells us to do!"

[Inward sighing]

"Okay!" she happily agrees, probably having forgotten that she's supposed to be working right now.

Mr. Fox is still sitting in the back with his poetry book.

[Places his hands on the table/desk in front of Mr. Fox and leans in, "smiling"]

Call off the hit.

He doesn't even look up from his book. "'Call off the hit'? Hmph. I wouldn't advise that."

[Attempts to steal the book]

He moves it just out of reach, not moving his eyes off the page. "Rude."

[Thank you for the compliment.

He makes a second attempt to grab it]

Just collecting some stolen property. If memory serves, that belongs to the Kunagisa Organization, doesn't it?

He lifts his arm again. It's not like his reflexes are particularly sharp, but somehow it seems strangely hard to pin him down.

He snorts. "Once upon a time. For the moment, as far as we're concerned, I got this from the 'library.'"

[Grits his teeth]

I don't care about your stupid fairy tales.

Call off the fucking hit. Now.

A derisive snort. "Why? If you're not interested, the choice is yours to leave this world as it is. It doesn't make a difference to me what you do."

[For a moment, it seems like he's going to continue on his tirade]

[But then he turns away from Mr. Fox and pulls out his phone to send a text to everyone else in the world.]

[And heads back in the direction of Rizumu]

She lights up when Intensity walks over. "Welcome back!"

Come on.

[Gestures for her to get up]

We're going outside.

"We are?"

She blinks, a little confused.

"Well, I better to go tell Mr. Fox first!"

He already gave me a free pass to do whatever the fuck I wanted.

[Which currently includes grabbing Rizumu by the wrist and attempting to leave]
