Princess Maker 1.5: Taisho Roman Revolution

[ When you insert the key and open the door, you'll find the room inside looks like the living room of a mansion. There are several doors, but one in particular stands out to you: it is ornately decorated, the very door's wood itself carved beautifully with gold etched in to make luxurious patterns depicting what looks like the sky and the wind blowing through the grasslands. Though the door is closed, you can see through it—as if it's somewhat transparent.

The room is painted baby blue and a gold-plated cradle sits in the room. Inside, a baby cries—high pitched and noisy. That child, your charge—you're her nursemaid, so you go to her and rock her to sleep. ]

-

[ Slowly, the scene changes, fading in and out with various silent scenes—the baby sits up, trying to climb out of her cradle; a little toddler dressed prettily with expensive clothes beams pleasantly; a tantrum, thrown by the little girl who's distressed; the little girl holding a puppy, pleased as punch; then the wall becomes opaque. ]

[ In the middle of the open doorway, a young girl at the age of 11 sits on a chair, smiling at you. A long-haired, pure white cat is curled up beside her.

This is your little girl. you couldn't help spoiling her, honestly—after all, she's a noble too, and she should like to become a princess as well. She deserves it! But you also know, with how her family history has gone, she's going to have to work to get to the top. Still, you have faith in her—she's your girl, after all. Fortunately, when she goes to the Lost Continent, she won't be alone: you, as her longtime caretaker (her third parent, really, or her first, if you consider how her family's left her care entirely to you), may accompany her to her new school. You'll be her ally, her support, her greatest weapon; you'll be the one who determines her success . . . or her failure. ]

[ Of course, you're not the only one that thinks your charge deserves the world: Samira, one of the Queens of your Kingdom, hand-selected your employers' child. She could not send her own child to the Lost Continent, of course—she has her own inheritance battle to face within the Kingdom and sending her own child out is essentially forfeiting that battle—so she's selected theirs to sponsor. It's because of her that your charge will be able to go at all. That your child would catch the Queen's eye surely means the inheritance is as good as hers! ]

I do not think I have any experience with children. [for some reason...! So no, no pressing need for bonding with daughter-chan.]

However, a lady needs to be educated in the arts; in that I agree with you fully. Covering all that entails by yourself would be an endeavour, would it not?

Tsukinaga and I both are very capable in the realms of composition and dance, while I am fairly well-versed in the arts and art history overall. If you find there are any areas she seems lacking in, though, you are free to supplement our lessons.

A lady also would need to be well-read. Literature and poetry are both essential. I would advocate philosophy as well, although that is generally less expected of a woman, it is doubtless an advantage to have it also. I shall supply that, then.

I will leave that to you during her free time, then.

Due to her temperament, now is an ideal time to focus her efforts on culture classes as she has the interest in such things.

Then let us have her devote all her free time to that, for the time being.

...Although admittedly, I feel it is somewhat ridiculous to have her temperament decide the course of her education. A good parent should rectify such tendencies, no? I do realise that is not necessarily easily doable in a Game such as this, of course.

She is but a child. She may have need of such skills in the future, but not yet. I wish to allow her some easy days, of which she can look back on with fondness and allow them to bolster her as she walks forward into a world which will allow her no such mercy.
untiltheend: (serious . why tho)

I will say: I do not understand this mindset. However, miss Kaguya agrees with your viewpoint, and I admittedly only know so much about children.

They are fragile creatures, and if they are not handled with care but instead allowed to shatter they will grow into adulthood with cracks and crags that never heal, that they must always live with.

...As you say. [Who cares if they don't heal, though?]

[ Shu absolutely grew up reading plays and poems and not developing social skills, so he has no ability to read tone. He nods, and smiles as if he's been understood. ]

And so our Ruka will be granted a far better fate than that!

[#thatmoment when Sebastian is the one with the better social skills]

[Case in point: he gathers that her "having a better fate" is supposedly a good thing.]

Then, certainly, miss Kaguya will be pleased.

Yes. She has been having a hard time as of late, so I hope quality time with our charge also offers her some reprieve.

[Hmm.]

Even though I know caring for a child is supposed to be fulfilling, is it not taxing also?

Re: DECISION

Certainly it can be, but the same can be said of any social interaction. It depends on the circumstances of each day, each and every encounter. Life is not such a simple thing that an algorithm can be applied to it, the world rendered out in black and white; true and false.
untiltheend: (smile . oh did you know)

[...] [He considers this very carefully for a moment.]

If you wish for purely fulfilling interactions for miss Kaguya in order to make her feel better, perhaps suggest she spend time with the cats? Their company is wonderful and never draining in the least.
