Shifting Sands: future is now
You find yourselves in a tastefully-appointed stateroom with linens and upholstery in future is now silver. At one side is a closet full of Victorian-era costumes and a box of props—whatever you might need to play a role.
There's a desk, and someone has left written instructions on the blotter. Maybe you should read them!

ROLES
Reply with which role you selected. If you accomplish your goal, reply to your own comment with links to the relevant thread(s).
Governor: Assert your authority at representatives from other nations until someone challenges you in a contest or duel, and when they do, put them in their place.
Scientist: Examine something strange that someone brings to you, and make some judgment of what the phenomena might be. It’s fine if the science is entirely fake.
Inventor: Make up an invention (with the in-character assumption that it mostly works) and convince at least one other nation that it is relevant to their goal. Props provided.
Engineer: Show someone how to fix something they’re working on. It’s okay if the engineering is fake. This is acting, technobabble it.
Newspaper Writer: Find out another unit’s current goal and report on it before they can complete it.
Black Sheep Noble Scion: Convince someone from another unit to take you on as an apprentice in something artsy or spiritual.
Con Artist: Convince someone to show you a mysterious artifact they found for scientific and/or mystical examination and then just steal it.
Sick Heir: Find a suitable marriage match while trying to hide your terrible illness. Pick one symptom and mention it once in every thread for acting credit.
