[ It is not, at first, clear what sorts of fruit trees they are—and upon closer inspection, you realize the source of your own confusion: each branch is laden with an impossibly wide variety of shapes and colors. The fruits themselves—grapes, pomegranates, mandarins, species you can’t even name—are all vividly colored, as if fresh from some painter’s brush. How many kinds are there? Perhaps every kind? ]

[He hesitates - tucks as many as will fit into one of his super hero belt pounches, especially some smaller ones, and including some he can't identify]

[Are any of the drinks in corked jugs...?]

[ You pilfer the shit out of that fruit.

The drinks, however, are in open jugs—after all, there's nothing here that would cause them to spoil, no impurities in the air. ]

[How narrow are the jug necks?]

[ They're like maybe three inches in diameter? ]

[Not easily corked with anything he has on him, then]

[He hesiattes, then goes to inspect the game tiles]

[ You're not familiar with this game, exactly, but it somewhat looks like chess . . . ? There are pieces in different shapes and sizes, as well as different colors. The board is checkered, etched into the stone. Each piece is heavily layered with thick light. ]

[He takes a picture of the board set-up with his eye cam, then helps himself to as many pieces as will fit in another of his superhero belt pouches]

[ you take a picture—you're pretty sure it took, anyway, although it might come out a little overexposed. and then you also thieve a bunch of the pieces. nice. ]

[When Nem's ready to get moving, too, he turns toward the hallway]

[She does not not go, thumbs hooked in her pockets]

...Nem?

C'mon. We might find something we can use.

[Follows along, attempting to be at least somewhat more careful this time]

[He hesitates - hesitates longer]

[Spends a long few moments fighting with himself over whether he should even get to touch her right now, before he loses his will save and takes her hand - gives it a soft squeeze and keeps hold of it, as he walks]

[ You both walk down the hallway; it stretches endlessly, it seems, but after some time Hurricane arrives at a fountain.

...Nemesis, however, finds herself drawn away in the long space of the hallway, and somehow ends up—elsewhere? ]

And—wait, where did Nemesis go? ]

[Whups, he lost Nem, he hangs back for a second, not going anywhere]

[Before he heads out, there's one last thing he said he'd do]

[He waits until everyone else has left the courtyard but him and Nem, then takes a piece of origami paper and a pen out of his superhero belt pouch and writes a note. He folds it over, so that the inside is hidden, then scrawls "Mehniel" on the front of it]

[He tucks it under one of the jugs, the name visible if a certain angel happens to find his way back]
