[checking out the food and some of the games, specifically the balls and nets set up]

[ It is not, at first, clear what sorts of fruit trees these are—and upon closer inspection, you realize the source of your own confusion: each branch is laden with an impossibly wide variety of shapes and colors. The fruits themselves—grapes, pomegranates, mandarins, species you can’t even name—are all vividly colored, as if fresh from some painter’s brush. How many kinds are there? Perhaps every kind? All of them are layered with a freckling of warm-glowing light.

As for the balls and the nets—well! You're not sure exactly what game it's supposed to be, but you're sure you could invent one easily enough, if you wanted to play one. Everything seems well-made and durable, and like it hasn't been used at all. ]

[going to pick one of these fruits and look at it closer. does it smell... fresh?]

[ It smells perfectly fresh, like it was just picked—and like it's the time of perfect ripeness.

For all the impossible perfection of the fruit, there is something almost welcoming about it—not a compulsion; just a gentle, almost home-y feeling. ]

[after the gate he doesn't want to risk eating it just yet but he'll pick a few different ones and pocket them]

[good thing he's got good pockets and also a bag.

maybe also taking one of the balls from the games too. that'll fit in his bag, right?]

I can't be fully sure it's the same thing, but it might maybe be okay to eat.

I don't think I want to try after what happened at the gate... at least not yet.

Mm. It might be possible that it has restorative effects, but... I'm not sure how that would play with your condition.

I don't want to risk it. I'll take some back with me, though.
