The gate itself is already open; it's shining and pure white, almost like flame, but it doesn't burn. You could pass through it easily, if you want. ]

[ The gate feels searing hot to the touch, but somehow not in a way that burns. More like a purity so intense that the only way your nerves know how to interpret it is as white heat.

As you pass through, it's as though a heaviness lifts from your chest—some terrible weight that you hadn't realized you'd been carrying. It had felt like terrible anguish, but now you can hardly remember it—it's as though it was a dream.

You find yourself in front of a fountain, with no way to cross back to where you were before. ]
