It's also painful. It feels like it's burning everything away—the corruptions, certainly; the blood in your veins, maybe?

It feels as though all of you could burn away. Your identity, your existence, your self—if you don't hold fast to that. Just who are "you", anyway? ]

[ He knows who he is.

He holds onto it bitterly, possessively, as someone who lost it more than once and refuses to ever again.

But these demonic touches -- they have no place. So he grits his teeth through the radiating burn until he can't stand it any longer -- and then drops over the rim of the fountain, panting.

The wings remain, but both eyes have returned to their original red. ]

[ And it all burns, truly—it sears through your veins and flesh and even seems to leech into your bone marrow, rushing through and leaving behind warmth.

Underwater, every sound is muted, leaving only you with the steady thudding of your heart. But you do know who you are, don't you? And there are some parts of yourself that aren't truly corruptible. Some things they can never take away from you—you, king of your own soul.
