Okay I mean it didn't part the water but it has made a small clearing in the water! And in the water, it looks like there is something shiny. Or maybe a reflection? It seems to be the reflection of a RED STAR in the sky. When you look up to the sky though, it's too foggy to see anything. As you peer back down at the reflection, a memory flutters through your mind.
The morning is a little chilly. But this is the only time you can escape out here all on your own. During the day, the adults wouldn't permit you to disappear to this spot unsupervised.
You're only 4 years old.
You just finish washing your hair in the water when you peer up at the sky and see it. A bright red star that you've never seen before. In the dim light of the dawn, it seems as though it is shining brighter than anything else in the sky.
Pulling yourself out of the water you wrap a towel around yourself and scale a tree, to climb up onto one of your favorite branches. Only to find a man. It looks as though he has been traveling for a while because his clothes are covered in dirt. He's merely smiling. You've absolutely never seen anyone from outside of your village before.
"You are-"
"This is your special seat I see. Sorry, kid," He says with a smile as you both sit on a large branch. You're perplexed. There is something strange about him, but you don't feel like you're in any danger, even though he doesn't belong this close to the village.
"... Who are you? You aren't a thug. You have some kind of aura-" It reminds you of the color yellow.
"I'm just a traveller," he says simply. "Don't mind me. More importantly, look at that, kid. It's the light of dawn."
You both stare toward the mountains in the distance where the sun will soon crest the horizon line. But shining brightly above it is that bright red star you had climbed up initially to better get a look at. It's beautiful... you've never seen it before.
"I feel like I have been called to that light," you say quietly.
"I see. It's finally been borne. Our light of fire."
"Light of fire?" There's a question in your voice.
"Well, whether it actually becomes a light is up to itself, though. A thousand...two thousand years? Well, who cares. I've been waiting for so long I'll just wait a bit longer."
The longer he speaks the more perplexed you feel. What does he mean thousands of years? But more importantly, this person is-
"... You, as I thought, you-"
But you suddenly sneeze breaking up the moment, and that's when he recommends you both get out of the tree. You do so, and he helps you to get dressed and towel you off.
"If you go in the water in the morning you'll catch a cold."
"It's no problem," you tell him without worry. You've never caught a cold before so it won't just happen now.
When he helps to put on your robe, that's when he takes notice of something.
"You're carrying a helluva thing there. When you get bigger, the scar will fade, so-"
Ah. There it is. Everyone always worrying over your scar. You respond in all seriousness while tying your robe.
"It is fine if this scar doesn't fade." In fact, you don't want it to. "But, when the people in the village see it they hace a face of pity. So I bathe here when everyone is still sleeping."
You don't want pity. You carry this scar with pride.
Suddenly, though, your eyes widen and embarrassment sweeps through you. At once you become serious.
"I said something unnecessarily. To make me lower my guard even though we just met--! Who are yo-"
"LORD HAKURYUU!"
A chorus of voices suddenly call out and you realize that the villagers have finally noticed your disappearance.
"LORD HAKURYUU! Where are you!?"
"Oops." At once the stranger is cloaked and already heading out. "See you kid."
"AH-" Wait...! He is already leaving!? He still hasn't confirmed anything for you. "You, by any chance--"
The man just smiles mysteriously before you can finish your question.
"If we are fated to, we'll meet again. Definitely."
And he takes off.
The villagers finally find you, running up to you in a panic and out of breath.
"Lord Hakuryuu! Are you alright?!" Another points to off in the distance of the mysterious man. "Just now, a strange person--"
"Stop it," you calmly inform them all. There's confusion among the ranks of the adults surrounding you, but you don't allow it to alter your decision.
"Do not follow that person."
The villagers reluctantly comply with your words, and you watch as he disappears into the distance. You can't understand it right now, but you feel a deep connection to that man. You and he are both tied to one another somehow, and share a divine purpose...isn't that right?
A purpose.
Finally, the memory fades, and you are once again simply standing in the forest, before the lake. ]
The area seems a little brighter than it did before, at least. If you forget, the little white scale that is not in your mouth will gently warm or glow to remind you!!
[ he looks like a very pretty wet feral cat now. and listen, that was a LONG memory he kinda spaced out for half of it.
he's real confused why he can't just pick up the reflection for a minute though. can he stand right where he thinks it is and look up? can he see the star from here?? ]
