Actions in this Heart are fueled by your own confidence. No matter how ludicrous or physically impossible the action, as long as you believe you can do it, the expertise necessary will come to you naturally.
However, in order to pull them off, your mind and body must be in sync with the balance of emotions in yourself. Everyone has a mix of red and blue to work with. For reference:
Red actions are passionate, impulsive, creative, chaotic, rebellious, sexy, playful, free-spirited, raw, warming. Blue actions are rational, calculated, intellectual, focused, lawful, elegant, mature, controlling, guarded, calming.
If you need an easy shorthand to figure out what colour your action will be, think red oni and blue oni. Chaos and Law can also work, but consider that actions which are destructive and criminal can be blue if you’re doing them with cold exactness in your heart, and actions that are just and constructive can be red if you feel passionate about it.
If you are unsure what colour an action will be, ask your GM.
In order to succeed at an action, you must successfully draw a token of the associated colour.
The more difficult the action, the more tokens you will have to draw. 1 token for Simple (basic actions, skills which are easy for your character) 2 tokens for SStylish (all combat, actions which take skill or are difficult for your character)
- Drawing all of the matching colour tokens is a success! You then add another token of the same colour to your total. - Drawing both colour tokens is a mixed result. You still accomplish it successfully, but you must discard one of the tokens drawn. In a combat scenario, your attack will hit, but you will also fail to dodge an enemy's attack. - Drawing all incorrect tokens is a failure. You discard one of the tokens drawn.
You add/subtract tokens for success/fail actions, even if you are only doing a Simple action.
If you want to accomplish something truly outrageous and near impossible, that's SSSmokin' Sick Style. In that case, you draw 3 tokens. On a mixed result or a failure, you lose all your tokens.
If you completely run out of either red or blue tokens, you will have failed to balance your heart and something will happen.
You stand on a large, circular platform, suspended in the darkness. The floor beneath you is a rose window of stained glass, lit from below by some unseen source. The cardinal corners are adorned with mural images in the glass: a red sword wreathed in flame; a revolver encircled by blue roses and thorns; a pious figure in a black shroud with book in hand; and a white demon with horns curved downward, brandishing a claw. Their images glow with power, beckoning you to choose between them. (There is only one of each weapon)
At the center of the platform is a statue of a young man. He wears a long coat and a cocky smirk, ready to take on any foe with the complex broadsword on his back and the gun holstered at his hip. But his real pride and joy, the weapon he's most confident in, must be what's in his right arm. Or... it would be if he had a right arm? Unfortunately, you may never know. That part of the statue has been broken off at the elbow.
You stand on another circular platform, suspended in the sky as dawn breaks through the night. The floor beneath you is cobblestone and mosaic tile, gleaming with many colours.
At the center of the platform is a statue of an angelic-looking woman, clad in raiments of her faith with her hair tied in a modest ponytail. Her expression is full of resolve, and the way she holds a child to her bosom protectively, as though shielding him, gives her an aura of selfless compassion.
You stand on another circular platform, suspended in a bright blue sky. The floor beneath you is weathered concrete, with skidmarks forming a kaleidoscope pattern on the ground.
At the center of the platform is a statue of a young woman with a snake tail and two sets of tentacles sprouting from her back. She has a devilishly playful sparkle in her eye, and her pose is flirtatious - maybe even a little suggestive? But the tentacles hover around her protectively, as though warning against anything untoward.
You stand on another circular platform, suspended in a bright blue sky. The floor beneath you is a painted fresco, depicting a flock of many different birds in Medieval style.
At the center of the platform is a statue of a tall, athletic teenage boy and a wild-haired girl with glasses. Though they stand back-to-back, the fondness and camaraderie in their faces makes it clear that they would support each other through any hardship - one with calm, sensible thinking and the other with spirit and biting wit.
You stand on another circular platform, suspended in a strange twilight that you realize is tinted red by mist. The floor beneath you is wet, dark and fleshy - like the cross-section of a massive plant stem that oozes blood wherever you step.
At the center of the platform is a statue of a thin, waif-like man with a cane, with a pet raven perched on his shoulder. Despite his frail appearance, his eyes burn with covetous desire and the still-burning resolve to survive, no matter how cornered.
You stand on another circular platform, suspended in the midst of a blizzard, lit by flashes of colour from dancing, supernatural light. The floor beneath you is made of white steel plating and iron bars, with glowing cables visible from between the seams.
At the center of the platform is a severe looking military man, back straight and hands clasped behind his back. His hair is combed straight back and he has the most unfortunate pointed goatee to go with the scowl on his face. Though his sword is sheathed on his belt, you can't help but wonder if he carries another rammed up his ass.
You stand on another circular platform, suspended in a swirling inferno of flame that howls like a wild beast, fighting to break free. The floor beneath you is blackened and charred stone, sharp enough to cut your feet, with still-glowing embers forming a spiral of shifting runes.
At the center of the platform is a handsome, muscular man with a pained, conflicted expression. In one hand he holds a kris dagger and the other seems to be tentatively reaching out to you - he looks unsure whether to hurt you, hurt himself, or to actually follow his heart. But it feels like he would only be this uncertain if he cared for you more deeply than he knew how to handle.
[wow jason's never been more interested in the room around it. are there exits? what's this decoration, can it be destroyed? how dangerous would it be to actually jump?]
You stand on another circular platform, suspended in the void of space where once-familiar stars sing, not with reassuring light, but with wapred, parasitic whispers that slither around inside you. The floor beneath you is a glitzy, many-coloured crystal that sparkles as a shallow layer of water runs across the whole stage, spilling over the edge and into nothingness.
At the center of the platform is a statue of a young woman with wild, shaggy hair that she nonetheless has attempted to tame in a ponytail. She has dual katanas drawn, and her expression is steeled in a look of utter calm despite what grisly work may ensue. There is no room for failure, and she will push beyond herself to master the deed at hand.
You stand on a large circular platform, suspended in twilight mist. The edges of your vision flickers and burn with vivid blue, and at times it seems like you can make out a meadow, dotted with flowers in every colour, far below you. The floor beneath you are tiles of pure white marble arranged in sacred geometry across the floor, and lined in bright gold.
The statue before you is... huge. A demon king sitting on his throne, lazily regarding you as the pest that you are. A crystalline sentry floats defensively around him, and his entire body seems to be armoured in tentacles that sprawl over him like a writhing, tangled nest of snakes. The largest of them drape over his throne, feeding his body more and more power. And they look strangely... organic, compared to the white marble underneath.
In fact it's green, like the stem of a flower.
Delicate white blossoms grow out from vital points on his body where the tentacles have amassed. It looks rather out of place on an otherwise fearsome demon king.
The space where a plaque would be has been torn off, and in its place, a word has formed in the cracks in the marble.
[he's still recovering from that feeling that he just got hit with. it... feels... bad... and if not for the immediate issue, Jason might just cry a bit.
but as it is, he focuses his gaze on the statue, and then considers, pulling the gun out.
what if... he shoots those armored tentacles? (blue, blue)]
You stand on a large, circular platform, suspended in a void of light. The floor beneath you is the same stained glass window you started from, but the colours are stronger now - almost overwhelming to look at. If you stare at it too long, you'll find yourself growing dizzy.
At the center of the platform sits the empty base for a statue, with an indent for placing the weapon you received.
