Vergil's heart game r2

You feel weak, your body won't move no matter how you try, and you are falling, away from everything you know and love. Away from everything you need to accomplish. If you could just reach out, maybe you could hold on to it, claw your way back. But it's a useless endeavour, you fall unconscious, and your mind goes blank except for poetry and a familiar voice.

O mother Enitharmon, wilt thou bring forth other sons?
To cause my name to vanish, that my place may not be found,

Like the dark cloud disburden'd in the day of dismal thunder.

My roots are brandish'd in the heavens, my fruits in earth beneath
Surge, foam and labour into life, first born and first consum'd!

Then why shouldst thou, accursed mother, bring me into life?

You wake on the ground in a cave, cold, wet, and sticky. It smells of rotting flesh. Your objective is clear, but you can't recall a name or face. Nothing else about your memory of him is changed, but for some reason the name "Vergil" just won't come to you, and you couldn't describe how he looks if your life depended on it. But at least your body starts to respond to your will, slowly regaining enough strength to carry on.

"Curious as ever on both counts." She laughs. "I can hardly stop you, can I? I doubt there's much to catch your interest here, but of course you can. Do keep Yamato with you to get that painting though."

I would ever listen to your wishes my dear. And then likely proceed to do what I wished, unless you told me I was likely to cause him and you harm.

[He sets his cup down and reaches over to squeeze her hand.]

I will return shortly. But ere I go, would you send anything to that part of Vergil? Or would that disrupt things?

Oh, you. That's exactly what she means! "He likes that about you, you know." Which colours her thoughts too. She places her other hand on top. "You do have wonderful ideas. Most of this should remain here but...maybe a flower from the garden?"

I will bring him a flower then.

[He squeezes her hand and rises, bowing low to kiss the back of her hand before he lets go.]

He is a fine young man [young by some standard] you should be immensely proud of him.

Did you or he have a favorite type of flower?

What a gentleman. And calling her son who's probably about the same age as her (maybe older??) is hilarious but she was married to an ancient demon so! That checks out. Maybe Vergil inherited a taste for much older men?

"I am incredibly proud. As for flowers, something blue is always a good choice isn't it?" He's a simple man, he likes blue. Because he's blue.

Look if we start thinking about ages everything gets weird though. So he never thinks about them. Instead he laughs.]

Yes, I suppose it is. I'll return soon.

[And he'll head to the garden to find a blue flower to take back to the library with him, instilling a little magic to preserve it eternally.]

[Back! Again! With a blue flower he sets by Eva's portrait.

Now let's examine those statues.]

Isn't it kind of all the same once you're over 1000? Vergil sure doesn't care.

She smiles as she waves you off. The magic is a nice touch too...what a good bread.

That's cute! He's still asleep on Emet...but there is once again just a nice feeling in the air.

The first statue is a many-armed stone statue of a woman with a snake's lower half, each hand holding a bright flame. She seems to speak in your mind when you stand before her.

I am the combat adjudicator. Only a dark-forged blade can move me.

[Well all right this is some kind of whatnot let's try drawing Yamato.

And maybe enchanting it and stepping back. Let the sword do all the work.]

The statue bursts into a geyser of blood -- crystallised into faces twisted in screams.

Looks like you got a sticker and 1000 red orbs. You know, assuming you want them. You didn't earn that sticker though. Cheater.

[Yeah suck it. He'll leave the sticker for tiny Vergil anyway but he's not sure what to do with the orbs. Maybe the next statue will enlighten him. But he's sheathing Yamato for now. He can draw it again if he has to beat up more inanimate objects.]

Is it inanimate? Who knows.

A statue that appears to be made of gold and stained nickel. It depicts a woman with a lion's head, carrying a giant hourglass upon her back like Atlas. There is no sand in the hourglass, but something does seem to flow within it. The words inscribed below read "The Watcher of Time". When you approach it, a voice rings in your ears.

Those who desire to acquire the ancient ways of war shall offer the blood of monsters in exchange.

Vital Star +1 Perseverance. 500 red orbs
Devil Star Increases demonic power. 500 red orbs
Tail bow a big red bow, you know, for your tail. It's very charming. 100 red orbs
Monocle is this...true power? 100 red orbs
Arm need a hand? It's a right forearm. Like, from a person. 100 red orbs
Painting it looks like it's of Yamato. 100 red orbs
Flowers a bouquet of regular, non-demonic flowers. 100 red orbs
Journal leatherbound and full of poetry. 100 red orbs
Violin surely this is self-explanatory. 100 red orbs
Robes for the Master of Ceremonies, Ligrev. 100 red orbs

You have 1000 red orbs. Five got some of these already but, there can be two, why not.

[Getting that painting! And also, the monocle, journal, flowers, and violin. If some of those are in the house already surely he can leave the extras here?]

Monocle You don't feel any different. Except maybe a little silly for even thinking about wearing a monocle, who the heck does that? Although there is a sort of aftertaste of needing to prove yourself...
Painting You feel proud, despite being completely out of your depth. Someone might be looking for this.
Flowers You're terrified. Or is this just how it feels being deeply in love? Maybe both. It might be difficult not to cry for a moment. But it's kind of lame to just give yourself a bouquet, sure you paid for it but are you just going to keep it for yourself?
Journal It's all hand written, and the writers the pieces are attributed to have some odd names. DMX? Tupac? Are these poems? Are we going to debate the validity of rap as poetry? No we're not, they're poems and you're going to appreciate them and the work put into getting this journal together. Well, maybe you won't that's your choice, but someone certainly would.
Violin A name was written on the back in black marker, but it's been scratched out. Even though this is clearly a high quality, expensive instrument. It's hard to shake the feeling of annoyance that comes with it. ...Well it was scratched out. Now Vergil is written above that again.

You still have 500 red orbs. The journal, flowers, and violin are already in the house, but so is anything else important, nothing left seems to call to you.

Unless you want some wizard robes?? That's a different sort of call right.

[I mean they are tempting but he's already in robes... sure he'll get them anyway.

And set the flowers, journal and violin in the growing magpie stash. And can he leave the orbs too? Whatever is left.]

Oh, okay, sure.

Robes You put on your robe and wizard hat. And itchy fake beard. You feel stupid. Because this is stupid. And when you try to take it off? Well that's a shame because your actual clothes have disappeared, so, you might want to keep it on. At least if you wear the full outfit no one will recognise you right??

Except you're magic so it probably gets replaced easily. Anyway enjoy being Ligrev for a moment. But sure you can leave all that and a bag of orbs. Or just a bunch of stray orbs. Maybe the child can shove them in another magic vending machine later. Or just appreciate them as part of this pile of offerings.

Really at this point the heart hardly cares what you leave, it's the thought that counts. And the attention. It's all great, Vergil's basically just preening but in...his soul? Or whatever? The point is you're going to spoil him rotten.

[Oh....

Well spoiling Vergil is the point? And he'll leave the dumb outfit on and even add the monocle.

Now he looks super fancy!! Fake beard and all!

Time to hunt down something to write with and on.]

You can probably find at least a quill and ink around some of the rubble, something must have been a table at some point. And there's definitely plenty of paper about.

Dear Vergil,

Though some have played a role in opening my heart, and you know who they are, you seem to hold some confusion about your own role and importance to me.

Without you I still would not try to trust. I would hold myself further aloof than I do now. I would not fall for you, and be such a fool for you. These things are your doing. And to take responsibility you will need to take care of yourself. To believe my words and not your doubts.

Heed me, then. I love you. Your worth and my need for you are unique to you. Second to none, for who would I compare you to? You have given me faith. Do not falter, for as you belong to me, I am yours.

The letter gets absorbed into the shelf, still able to be read but it lives here now, it can't be taken away, almost like he's trying to latch on? At the least it's certainly something he wants to believe.

[Well.... not what he expected but if it makes it more permanent? ]

Wow who's that! Eva absolutely acts as if she has no clue, who could ever figure it out? "How strange, I'm afraid I don't recognise you at all? Are you lost?" Hard to hide the laugh though.
