Vergil's heart game r2

You feel weak, your body won't move no matter how you try, and you are falling, away from everything you know and love. Away from everything you need to accomplish. If you could just reach out, maybe you could hold on to it, claw your way back. But it's a useless endeavour, you fall unconscious, and your mind goes blank except for poetry and a familiar voice.

O mother Enitharmon, wilt thou bring forth other sons?

You wake on the ground in a cave, cold, wet, and sticky. It smells of rotting flesh. Your objective is clear, but you can't recall a name or face. Nothing else about your memory of him is changed, but for some reason the name "Vergil" just won't come to you, and you couldn't describe how he looks if your life depended on it. But at least your body starts to respond to your will, slowly regaining enough strength to carry on.

"Oh." He gives you a look that's amused and fond. You sweet summer human. "She needs demon blood, that's human blood. Sorry about your shirt. I'll take it though." Maybe they can trade, he's a little younger but big for his age! Though his shirt is bloody too. Just not fresh. Either way, he'll take some blood.

[YES he's escaping it through pure anger, thank you very much. And -1 Perseverance. Are any of the scattered beams light enough to pick up? If not he'll just head straight for the boy.

It was worth a shot, I can't actually tell what's demon blood and human blood.

I'd say you can wash it but to be honest this is basically just gone now.

Vergil tried to warn you! Maybe come back when you have Yamato or something. Or just grind that willpower stat.

At least these Vergils don't teleport, he does have that going for him.

It's tough, they just keep coming. But you do take out a few and manage to escape while losing that single Perseverance point. Going back to the library? Or teleporting elsewhere?

It's about halfway through, there's nothing symbolic to find within, this is just the book Vergil's been reading. Although the bookmark is just a scrap of wrapping paper folded up with a tag that reads, To: Vergil From: Shrike

[Library for a moment, if only to draw a sigil on the door south trying to seal it. Maybe not get Five killed by letting him go in there? Not that he cares what Black does.

And once he's composed himself from nearly being murdered he'll head for wherever he senses the Yamato since that does seem a little necessary to this.]

[That is adorable. He brings the book to the boy and holds out his hand.]

[Oh hey. Black is mercifully newly cleaned of all the blood he was previously soaked in. Now his clothes just have lots of slices in them. And he's looking super annoyed.]

Sure, there must be a piece that's light enough to carry, you might get some splinters from it.

This child looks to be about 10, and doesn't actually seem out of place, he certainly looks like he's been living in this world for a while. Though he's covered in dried blood and there are tears in his clothes, he doesn't appear to have a single mark on his own flesh. There's a certain wild sort of look to him, and yet, his posture is perfect, his hair smoothed back without a strand out of place... It's an odd juxtaposition.

And when you start to approach holding what's meant as a weapon, he immediately turns just enough to glare at you.

"I wouldn't do that."

[ OH. He was definitely not expecting black and he looks surprised to see him here ]

[Oh. He floats though it's probably too late to save the robe from being a bit bloodied. That's fine. He'll just float like an asshole over the lake looking a sword.]

He takes it, and just...wrings it out into his mouth. Because he is a feral demon child and it will give him strong bones.

"Thanks. The other statue will give you demon blood if you attack it with Yamato, otherwise...I don't really know where you'll find any. I guess I could give her some, since you gave me this."

And you know what, he's just going to go right over.

A statue that appears to be made of gold and stained nickle. It depicts a woman with a lion's head, carrying a giant hourglass upon her back like Atlas. There is no sand in the hourglass, but something does seem to flow within it. The words inscribed below read "The Watcher of Time". When you approach it, a voice rings in your ears.

Those who desire to acquire the ancient ways of war shall offer the blood of monsters in exchange.

The boy sinks his teeth into his own arm, and holds it out to drip onto the statue.

He's a big bad demon child he doesn't need to hold a hand.......

But he wants to hold this hand so he takes it, even if he looks a little pouty about it. This book is probably a bit explicit for a child but then again, he reads worse!

"If you're done. I don't think there's anything else important here... Oh- wait. Dante's amulet. They go together."

Probably? Not only the child intends to try something, too.

"You are of this place?"

[This boy lives in Hell. He can do and read whatever he wants.]

Ah. It only makes sense you should have both.

[He goes back to the body to retrieve it.]

[ WELL HE DIDN'T EXPECT THIS TURN OF EVENTS but he supposes that's a way to get this done. He's a little surprised at Vergil just offering his blood like that, but he is chomping on his blood-soaking shirt so ??? What can he expect anymore.

Every part of him is screaming to be practical and get the perseverance, but the objective here is to get pieces of Vergil's soul, isn't it. ]

If I get you a violin will you play it?

You float over the blood like an asshole. It's a lot of the same thing, rubble, creepy statues staring at you, and blood. But you seem to really irritate the statues, there's whispers hissed among them.

They don't actually have eyes, no more than blank carvings anyway, and yet it's as if they follow you like the Mona Lisa. With the unmistakable feeling that they're judging you. They stare right into your soul. Are you worthy? Likely not. But you gain 1 Perseverance for enduring the scrutiny.

As you get close to one, those eyes form slit pupils, as if they're carved in real time, fangs growing over its bottom lip.

"You... We know that smell. You have the stench of a traitor. Sparda, that treacherous cur."

HMMMMM I DON'T BELIEVE YOU.

"I live here, yeah." He just keeps glaring for a moment, before deciding you're not enough of a threat to keep an eye on, and goes back to reading his book. Not ignoring, but, you don't need his full attention.

[*he totally said "Mr Valour" in the previous comment. Also Black is casually carrying a beam. It makes for as good a bat as anything.]

Oh, only that asking these good-for-nothing creatures politely of anything is a worthless endeavour. [So is trying to muscle your way into getting places, but details...]

[You know what, he's kind of annoyed from fighting Nelo Angelos and he really wants to explode this mouthy piece of petrified demon king.

But he will refrain for a moment.]

And what of it? Is there anything elucidating you would like to add? Or is that the best you can muster, moldering here, even your glory forgotten? Let alone whatever grand name you may have had.

The chain just pokes out of his fist. It takes some prying, but his hand opens, revealing a second pendant. This is nearly identical to the other, but in silver, with Dante's name carved on the back.

The moment it's brought near enough to Vergil's, they come together as if magnetised and shape themselves into one. There's another rumble in the ground, and you feel a bit lighter.

So no progress.

Can I ask you to make sure to be particularly careful with his soul or are you going to do whatever you want anyway?

[He scoops up the boy again.]

Does it feel better?

"A violin -" He's shocked, a little bit afraid, is that okay? Can he play violin and be a strong demon making his way in Hell? He presses his lips together, getting that constipated expression of his...and nods.

Violin A name was written on the back in black marker, but it's been scratched out. Even though this is clearly a high quality, expensive instrument. It's hard to shake the feeling of annoyance that comes with it.
