You feel weak, your body won't move no matter how you try, and you are falling, away from everything you know and love. Away from everything you need to accomplish. If you could just reach out, maybe you could hold on to it, claw your way back. But it's a useless endeavour, you fall unconscious, and your mind goes blank except for poetry and a familiar voice.

You wake on the ground in a cave, cold, wet, and sticky. It smells of rotting flesh. Your objective is clear, but you can't recall a name or face. Nothing else about your memory of him is changed, but for some reason the name "Vergil" just won't come to you, and you couldn't describe how he looks if your life depended on it. But at least your body starts to respond to your will, slowly regaining enough strength to carry on.

[Well at least he hasn't forgotten SOME people.

He will teleport over to the kid and Emet-Selch rather than bother trying to pick his way over.]

The boy jumps when you appear, but he's already turning back to the shelf while speaking to Emet, so he tries, so very hard, just to keep his gaze there and not acknowledge you.

[Rather gently trying to touch his shoulder.]

"..." He winces at the touch, but steels his expression.

Or tries, anyway. "▇▇▇. What is it? You can hear everything anyway, right? Just go get them."

[He frowns.]

And leave you here alone? I can sense your soul and yet cannot even recall your name.

"...Of course you can't." Well, the fear seems slowly to leave him, but he just looks a bit defeated instead. "It's fine. You were going to anyway so what's it matter."

You will not tell me? I will rediscover it on my own regardless.

[He crouches next to the child, putting a hand in his head.]

Believe in me more than that.

"I can't tell you. I don't...know either." He's trying so hard not to react to this gentleness, and it's likely obvious that he feels he has to be strong, which means not accepting it - what else would a Vergil be thinking? But he does look over finally, and nods a bit.

Then I shall need recall for both of us I suppose!

[He brushes his fingers over Vergil's hair... then takes his mask and places it in his hands as Emet lifts him.]

If you stay with Hades I can more easily find you both.

...Oh. He nods again, embarrassed at being held like this, but, he is a kid. He can't help liking it!

"You can tell where I am right? Alright. I'll stay with him so you won't lose track of him." He feels like he's helping. "...You don't have to play the game though. You could just stay here. I'll look after you, both of you."

Do you wish me to? I would like to help, but not at the cost of making you feel abandoned.

[He does change into Ascian robes to match Emet though.]

"...Well, you could do both. It would help if you put everything back, it hurts not having all of my soul. Even a bit more would feel better. But, after, you could come back and stay. I think Five's here too. All three of you could stay with me, you don't have to leave."

You know, ever.

Greedy, hm?

I cannot promise to stay here forever, but I will explore and return to wherever you and Hades are. After all, I will want my mask back. And you will want whatever parts of yourself I find, I should think.

There's a field of flowers, to the east. Accessing the place will make you drowsy. Unfortunately the flowers are also murderous and will pierce you with their roots and absorb your blood straight from your heart.

That's what I gathered as I was living it anyway. I suggest avoiding it.

[He smooths Five's hair back. Clearly unhappy with his deaths but, what can you do? Touch five soothingly that's what.]

The grass was lavender, the flowers themselves were red. They grew as I was killed.

As for my recklessness, I'll try to be reasonable but this is him we're talking about. Obviously I'm willing to go a bit above and beyond.
