Vergil's heart game r2

You feel weak, your body won't move no matter how you try, and you are falling, away from everything you know and love. Away from everything you need to accomplish. If you could just reach out, maybe you could hold on to it, claw your way back. But it's a useless endeavour, you fall unconscious, and your mind goes blank except for poetry and a familiar voice.

O mother Enitharmon, wilt thou bring forth other sons?
To cause my name to vanish, that my place may not be found,
For I am faint with travail,
Like the dark cloud disburden'd in the day of dismal thunder.

My roots are brandish'd in the heavens, my fruits in earth beneath
Surge, foam and labour into life, first born and first consum'd!
Consumed and consuming!
Then why shouldst thou, accursed mother, bring me into life?

You wake on the ground in a cave, cold, wet, and sticky. It smells of rotting flesh. Your objective is clear, but you can't recall a name or face. Nothing else about your memory of him is changed, but for some reason the name "Vergil" just won't come to you, and you couldn't describe how he looks if your life depended on it. But at least your body starts to respond to your will, slowly regaining enough strength to carry on.

There's only the sounds of buttrock... No one responds.

Vergil clutches Lahabrea's mask and tries not to look.

[He puts Vergil down and heads towards the desk to confirm that is probably a dead body.]

This is, of course, Dante, and he is, of course, dead. When you get close, it's immediately apparent. There's blood all around his chair, flowing down from the wound through his back. It's a thin and short mark, but based on how much blood there is, it clearly goes all the way through his heart and back out his chest. One of his hands is clutching something, while an amulet lays face up in the puddle of blood.

There's a flashing voicemail indicator by the telephone, and, you guessed it, more garbage strewn about. A pizza box that's still mostly full and not yet cold. There's uh, a lot of olives on this. There's also a framed photo of a blonde woman, smiling softly.

And Vergil stands there, turning his back to it to just focus on holding this mask and not his dead brother.

[He takes the amulet and wipes it clean of blood before heading over to Vergil to sit with him, holding it out.]

This is an illusion. I daresay he's making a nuisance of himself this very moment.

[Gonna suck when he figures out he's transferred.]

The amulet has "Vergil" carved in the back. The moment you see that, his face also comes back to you, and something in the distance rumbles. It isn't always visible, but this is something he tends to wear daily, so chances are you've seen it on him.

And Vergil too looks up like he's suddenly just remembered. That at least makes him feel a bit better, as does having his amulet back. He puts it on immediately. "Thank you, Hades."

Of course.

[He hugs him firm but brief.]

I am going to take a moment to look around. Five is in need of a weapon, but I will be right back.

[And he will look for a weapon, but first he will pause again by Dante's body and spare a moment for silent last rights, Ancient style, whatever that looks like.]

He nods, and just keeps standing in the corner.

There's many weapons. Guns, daggers, gauntlets, a mace, some sort of extendable polearm... Most are highly ornamented with distinct motifs. You can see a distinct, whole soul in each, not just a piece woven through.

[Well, that's disturbing but he takes a pair of guns and two daggers.

He inspects the area and books around the couch because it seems in less disarray.]

Insert cool Devil Arm acquisition sequence here. Do some cool moves, Emet, say a cheesy line. You know you want to.

There's a pillow and blanket folded up to one side of the couch together, like someone sleeps here. The shelf is full of books, and pretty well all of them are poetry, though the one currently sitting on top of the blanket with a bookmark in it is Autobiography of Red: A Novel in Verse by Anne Carson.

[Isn't there supposed to be a dance sequence with a cowboy hat?! Truthfully, though, if there wasn't a sad boy in the room because of his dead brother he'd consider striking a ridiculous pose.

Goodness, Lahabrea is the reader, but he takes the books and opens it to the bookmark.]

It's about halfway through, there's nothing symbolic to find within, this is just the book Vergil's been reading. Although the bookmark is just a scrap of wrapping paper folded up with a tag that reads, To: Vergil From: Shrike

[That is adorable. He brings the book to the boy and holds out his hand.]

Shall we go back?

He's a big bad demon child he doesn't need to hold a hand.......

But he wants to hold this hand so he takes it, even if he looks a little pouty about it. This book is probably a bit explicit for a child but then again, he reads worse!

"If you're done. I don't think there's anything else important here... Oh- wait. Dante's amulet. They go together."

[This boy lives in Hell. He can do and read whatever he wants.]

Ah. It only makes sense you should have both.

[He goes back to the body to retrieve it.]

The chain just pokes out of his fist. It takes some prying, but his hand opens, revealing a second pendant. This is nearly identical to the other, but in silver, with Dante's name carved on the back.

The moment it's brought near enough to Vergil's, they come together as if magnetised and shape themselves into one. There's another rumble in the ground, and you feel a bit lighter.

He looks down at the perfect amulet, holding it in his hand, and nods with a smile. "Yes. It's just right like this."

Hm, when he says that, Dante's body just disappears, along with the blood and any other evidence of what had happened.

Good.

[If he knew what the flashing light meant on the answering machine, he'd probably pick it up, but as it is, he doesn't. So he walks through the front door to see if that will take him to the library.]
