You feel weak, your body won't move no matter how you try, and you are falling, away from everything you know and love. Away from everything you need to accomplish. If you could just reach out, maybe you could hold on to it, claw your way back. But it's a useless endeavour, you fall unconscious, and your mind goes blank except for poetry and a familiar voice.


O mother Enitharmon, wilt thou bring forth other sons?
To cause my name to vanish, that my place may not be found,

My roots are brandish'd in the heavens, my fruits in earth beneath
Surge, foam and labour into life, first born and first consum'd!

You wake on the ground in a cave, cold, wet, and sticky. It smells of rotting flesh. Your objective is clear, but you can't recall a name or face. Nothing else about your memory of him is changed, but for some reason the name "Vergil" just won't come to you, and you couldn't describe how he looks if your life depended on it. But at least your body starts to respond to your will, slowly regaining enough strength to carry on.

[He looks startled at that--but then frowns, taking Lily's face in his hands gently.]

Lily, you didn't know I was there. I was not aware you were here, too. I could have done something stupid to endanger you, as well.

That's a cold comfort. Yeah, sorry for getting you killed, I just didn't know. You still would have been dead and it would have been my ignorance that caused it!

[She looks him in the eye to try and drive the point home before looking away, ashamed.]

If anything happened to you...if I did anything to you...

[It's easy to defy in the heat of the moment, but maybe she really is just weak and pathetic. Even now. Even after everything, she still can't--]

Without power you can't protect anything, let alone yourself... Certainly not anyone you love, who are meant to be able to depend on you.

The more you think about all of that, the stronger the feeling is. It makes the air itself heavy.

[Damnit...she can't...think too hard about this right now. She's not so stupid that she can't tell this wouldn't have an effect on him, especially since this is how he thinks already but what recourse does she have? You need some measure of power to do anything at all.

There are different ways to protect people, though, she does believe in that.]

[The thought weighs heavily on Levity's mind, too--but at the same time there is indignation. Indignation at the thought that people need to be protected, that the world is cruel enough to warrant that. Why is it power, why is it conflict that's always necessary? He's weak, yes, but he's never felt the need to be strong! What's wrong is the fact that others would hurt him and people he loves, not the fact that he's weak!

Levity takes a deep breath, trying to ignore the inner protests.]

Lily. The moment you saw that I was in danger, you came to save me. And--you were willing to risk your life for me. Please, just... I know it must feel terrible, but--I'm safe. You're safe. You never meant to hurt me. And I love you too much to just--let you feel like this. So, please...

[She twitches at the mention of love, but that's all.]

Of course, I would come to save you. I wouldn't--I couldn't just leave you...I'm sorry. I'm really sorry.

[Levity has some great inner monologue there but that, unfortunately, is so divorced from her reality even if she would think he had a point and would dearly love to agree with it.

Too bad she can't read his mind.]

[Too bad Lily can't read minds! Levity's face falls at her apologies, too--it's... it's like he's supposed to be angry at her. He hugs her again stroking through her hair gently, nuzzling the side of her face.]

I'm not angry at all, Lily... You don't need to apologize to me. Truly. You haven't hurt me. And... you wouldn't have needed to worry at all, if I were stronger...

[He still dislikes the thought, but he can't exactly deny it.]

Though... I think you would have worried nonetheless.

You should be angry.

[There's no fire behind it, only resignation; he's not going to be, it's almost worse in some ways, but she can't use him to punish herself, that isn't going to solve anything. still, she almost wishes he would be, but this isn't how he's built and isn't that she l--cares so very deeply about him?]

You don't need to be strong. You're completely fine and completely wonderful exactly the way you are. Don't ever say that, it's relative anyway.

[Levity shakes his head slightly.]

...Would you be angry with me, if things were the other way around? If my mistake put you in danger? I know I would be angry with myself, and terrified of hurting you. Losing you. But would you be angry with me? And if the answer is no, then I want you to accept that I've no anger towards you, either. I'm... truly just glad that you are fine. That you are here with me.

[He kisses her temple. They're gross.]

I love you the way you are too, Lily. So... you needn't do better out of obligation to me. Your change and growth... I want it to be for your own sake.

...It's not an obligation if I want to be the best I can be for you. But I take your point. Okay.

[HE'S GOOD AT ASSUMING THE BEST ABOUT PEOPLE.]

You should be the best you can for yourself too, Lily. You deserve as much. And I want to do all I can to help you, too.

[He smiles happily at that, if a little flustered! Lily is Nice and he Loves Her. Dipping his head down to give her a quick kiss.]

Then let me thank you for wanting to do so much for me.

[She kisses him back, chasing his lips a little when he tries to draw away. She wants a little more, just a little. He's comfort incarnate and she could use a little of that right now.]

You don't have to thank me, Vivi. It's only natural to want to.

[She's just going to reach for one of the hands on her face and lace their fingers together.]

[Levity is not so oblivious as not to notice Lily trying to follow for more, and he's ever eager to please. He smiles softly, stroking her cheek with a thumb, then leans in to give her another kiss - for the sake of the audience it's mostly chaste, tender moreso than passionate, but as affectionate as ever. They're GROSS.]

Vergil's rolling his eyes at you guys.

"Do you have to?"

"Oh, aren't you just the most adorable demon!"

[He's the CUTEST demon. Look at how baby he is. Levity startles a little at the sound of Vergil's voice - look, he still feels... weird... about the soul vore... but he's nevertheless glad to see him again. Gives the baby a wave.]

Ah, apologies... but I would say yes. I wanted to comfort Lily...

[He squeezes her one last time before letting go gently to... go crouch next to Vergil again? This is a good idea?]

He huffs at Lily! Don't patronise him. Geez.

But then he's too distracted by Levity. He smiles, nodding. "Sure, I feel fine, what's up?" Like he doesn't even remember stealing your soul!

Instead of the child before you being indignant about the dad joke, a hear a distant, but familiar laugh. Nice. Love a dad joke. Official dad approved.

"Oh, yeah. I guess I do feel a bit better...I know you're not going to leave me."

[Levity grins, delighted about the dad approval. He's just... going to nod at the air around them? In hopes that Dad Vergil can somehow perceive him doing that?]

I'm glad, then. But I hope you realize I won't leave you alone once we're out of here, either, for all your attempts to tell me you make a bad friend.

[Soulvore is friendship! He pats baby on the head gently, if that's allowed.]
