At first, there is nothing.

And then there’s a voice, saying:

… look, I don’t have time to explain. Hold this.

And something, ready or not, is thrust into your hand. Maybe it’s a pen, or a brooch, or a watch or a phone, or anything at all so long as it’s small enough to hold, and looks too important to lose.

Maybe you try to object, but a small, winged creature wreathed in iridescent sparkles darts into your view, and clasps your hands, and curls your fingers tight about the object in them.

You’re just, the creature says, going to have to trust me. Now: raise your hand, and say:

Power of a Dreaming Star – Metamorphose!!

Maybe you know these tropes, or maybe you don’t.
Maybe you’re about to protest that no, you couldn’t possibly, this is ridiculous and you’ve got the wrong person—

But you can’t resist the call. Nobody ever can.

And then?

Then? It’s not dark any more.

We need you to get the light back. You probably saw it was dark when you looked outside, right? Oh yeah, and there's the flowers, too.

I did see that. [ And flowers...] Oh-- like the ones here?

[ She points to the drooping white flowers nearby. ]

Well, yes and no? You won't miss 'em, they're basically everywhere after all..

I see... without light, I don't suppose flowers would survive very well. If we can do that it should help them, right?

Oh, uh... well, we need them gone, actually. There's a few too many, for a start.

Just the overgrowth. Like I said, you'll know it when you see it. It's pretty much everywhere, but the light'll get rid of it, if we can get the sun to rise.

Well, this stuff is mostly for emergencies. But if you're ever in a pinch, they should help you out.

[You examine the items. They are:

[A single pink-purple tinted eyeglass with a silver frame, worn clipped into place over one ear. A small switch on the arm can be toggled to perform an instant scan of the immediate area. Once the scan is complete, the wearer will be alerted to the presence of any hidden items or dangers.

[A finely-wrought golden hourglass full of shimmering, pink-white sand, suspended on a golden chain that can be worn about the waist. When the hourglass is turned and the sands are flowing, the bearer can briefly reverse the flow of time.

[A spherical bottle full of shimmering blue-purple liquid, suspended on a silver chain that can be worn about the waist. The enchanted waters in this bottle can be used once to heal the wounds of the bearer, or of a fallen friend.

[Which one do you want to take?]

[ After a long moment of consideration, she picks up the eyeglass scanner. ]
