[ It's a crystalline hourglass, sparkling in the twilight - up close it looks sort of like a set of vases one on top of the other; the half facing up has a black top, while the half facing down has a gold top (or bottom, as it were) - identifying them with the "human" and "witch" shelves, respectively.

You can see a number of small fractures along the surface, not quite broken yet but decidedly cracked. ]

Mm. Because of the sand -

It's heavy, so if it all pours into one end, then it'll probably break, won't it...?

[ carefully beginning to tilt it, with a hand underneath to see if the cracks mean moving it will spill any of the sand ]

[ They aren't quiiiite so deep or wide just yet. No spillage, but this close you might notice that the tops look unscrewable. ]

this is gonna be a stupid question but if he were to tilt it so it's completely balanced is there enough space for him to put something underneath so it can be held in place like that

for example,
- a book
- a tupperware box
- a basket full of snacks

(in the meantime he's tightening the tops carefully so nothing's loose) ]

[ it's true

once he's bandaged the hourglass up he's going to wrap more medical tape around the ends—not on the lids, so they're still unscrewable, but just under them—and then tying them to the rotator handle bits, human end first so it's situated lower than the witch end

then he's going to, deadass, stand here and let it trickle until both sides are even. ]

basking in that. he's following along and flipping the pages as she goes in case she needs that (he is not entirely sure) but he's also, after a point, tilting the hourglass to check that it's roughly half full on both sides before tying the witch side down too ]
