Eclipse's Heart Game ☉ Session #3

You drift like you're floating in water. It's almost relaxing, actually. As long as you don't think too hard that what you're floating in may be bottomless, because under you lies only a deep darkness that only the ocean can provide.

Then something grabs you and drags you deeper, down, down, down into the abyssal depths. You can't breathe, but that's not on the forefront of your mind now, is it?

There is a mounting sense of anxiety and dread.

Who do you want to become? Will you even get to see tomorrow? What if all roads lead to ████████? Can you still stay '███'? If people see the ████ you, will they think less of you? Will they feel cheated?

You want to live. Even if it's a ███, even if your hands must be covered in █████, you want to live. You want to be '███'.

Finally, a voice pierces through the darkness. It's a woman's voice.

"My, how unfortunate. Your journey ends before it even begins."

"... Just kidding. That would be terribly boring! I suppose I can do the boy a favour just this once."

You feel someone grab your arm and pull you up to the surface.

...

When you come to, you are standing somewhere else.

[Oh, that's actually surprisingly okay.

[Apparently K never learns, ever, because he totally picks up the motorcycle.]

Is this D.Va?

You never disliked her, and she's tried to hear you out before, so you know she cares. That said, you often feel out of your depth since you don't really know how to close the distance. She'd always seemed like a thrillseeker to you, and every time she tries to be mindful of her tendencies for your sake, you're both grateful and feel a little bad.

... At times, you wonder that she is more fragile than she seems to be, but you don't want to dwell on it overly much.

(No, definitely; you remember her stabbing herself in public and gods. GODS. You swear if someone says something like preferring pain to dealing with emotions, you ---)

It feels like there isn't much you can do for her besides try to advise her, where you can. You genuinely don't know if it helps, or if she listens. And you certainly do not actually know what she gets up to, though you have the vague idea if you knew everything you'd probably need to lie down. Or walk into the sea for a bit.

Maybe it is for the best that there is a little distance between you two. You wish for her to be happy, but ... you have to take care of yourself, too.

[Oh, they do all do that.

[That seems to square with D.Va's... everything. Either Eclipse is extremely incisive or you and her really are just that goddamn obvious, or maybe it's both...

[There's something wrong with D.Va, his mind takes this moment to remind him, something wrong like she can't even die when she's meant to: you still haven't looked into that, because you don't even kn ow where to start. And nothing he can do about it here other than put a pin in it and try not to remember how you found this out.

[He puts the bike down.

[It was Prim Eclipse killed, wasn't it?

[The tea is probably off-limits, so he takes the gloves.]

You've always thought of him as sensible. A person of principles who also wasn't blinded by idealism, who actually tried to think reasonably instead of always being rashly carried away. He made you feel like being a pragmatist wasn't useless and worthless.

You get the feeling the two of you wouldn't have always seen eye-to-eye about things, but at the very least he'd try to understand you. You want to believe you would have done the same for him.

... You're so very, very tired of 'heroes'. But he's one of the people you'd accept as one; mostly because it means so much to him, but partially because you want to believe in him. If nothing else.
