[You wake alone with your unit in what appears to be a dressing room. There's nothing on the costume racks right now, but you have vanity seats and a couch to chill on if you like.

On a table in the center of the room, there is an ornate metal box with three slots on top. The slots are labeled with the names of three other units: BAD END=DEAD END, future is now, & BARiTONES. Next to the box a laminated copy of the IC rules is taped down, and beside it lie four cards:

♦ a green card with a picture of two linked rings and the word "WED"
♦ a blue card with a picture of a rose and the word "BED"
♦ a red card with a picture of a guillotine and the word "BEHEAD"
♦ a purple card with a picture of two circling arrows and the word "INSTEAD"

Or we can give up and die but I'm not into that. I hate guys that just half-ass things, and giving up when everyone here has their lives depending on it leaves just the worst taste in my mouth.

"Giving up" and "dying" are a little distinct from each other in this game . . . Certainly, putting no choice in would be giving up and letting ourselves die, but "dying" is something we can choose to do as well, without "giving up".

If we did it on purpose without giving up, that's just self-sacrifice, though? Agreeing to be someone's sacrificial lamb sucks too, especially when we're going to be the one sewing them back up after all this.

I don't mean that we should do it. Simply that the options are distinct.

As far as I'm concerned, if we give up we're more or less consigning ourselves to dying so it's close enough. It's not that I don't get the difference, but I'm super tired of people who I'm supposed to be protecting going and crucifying themselves when no one asked for that.
