For a moment, he freezes, as though he did not expect for Luci to do that. And then there's a sound almost like a sob from him, his shape wavering even more than before as he grasps Luci's hands in turn, head bowed and shoulders tense. He slips into that warbling, birdlike speech again, words unintelligible but in a brief, desperate attempt the feelings behind them get through: despair, exhaustion, homesickness, heartache, and almost disbelieving gratitude for the kindness given to him. And there is another strange moment that doesn't feel quite real, and—

The storm... stops. The whole landscape freezes, like a video paused, and then slowly fades away. When the darkness dispels, you find yourself back in the Macarenses Angle.
The broken-up tower still looms over you. On the left, the sky fades into oranges and reds, as though the sun is setting. On the right, it grows darker and darker on the horizon, until there is nothing but inky blue-blackness.
But... maybe it's just your imagination, but the tear in the sky looks a little less wide now.

eventually though, he's ready again to venture down the path of darkness, to the right, clutching the shard in his fist all the while. ]
