You head up the stairs, but you find that a fantastical laser show depicting a dog playing fetch appears right before your very eyes forms a solid barrier that prevents you from going all the way up. Or you might just be about to have a seizure from the flashing lights and air horn noises, who knows.

At any rate, it is just light so you might be able to walk through it if you really want to.

[ yeah no, he's going back down the few stairs over to the bar to grab one of the mugs and come back to casually low toss roll the mug through the light barrier and see if it triggers anything before actually trying to walk through it. It might crack but he's less concerned about the mug surviving the fall than the cute dog laser image.]

High above your head, say, perhaps, exactly twenty feet - there seems to be a set of projectors and what looks like a keyhole.

Or just a thin slit, but it seems like it could probably be turned if you could stick something that fits in it.
