LOBBYQUEST - PARTY 1

Once you enter the door, you find yourself passing through, uh -

This front yard? It seems you've found yourself in some sort of dolphin mansion.

... He is a very dear friend, and something of a father figure to me. We butt heads at times, of course. But he is also quite fussy, particularly whenever I treat my wellbeing "glibly", as he puts it.

He probably just thinks your safety is precious. As all people care for their loved ones.

... He certainly does. I'm sure he, too, would advise me against doing things like these.

[He sounds very fond! Lov dad, even if stuff is complicated sometimes.]

You do not believe his advice is correct?

If I don't try things, who will?

I do believe that many in this group would be willing to attempt something in the name of progress.

Perhaps I might rephrase the question is why do you think that you must be the one to do these things?

... I would say that it is because we should not expect of others to do what we ourselves would not be willing to do.

So if I had offered to drink what you discovered, you would not have yourself?

[...]

Only if you truly wanted to do so, not just to prevent me from drinking it.

It is not just to prevent you, but to also promote fairness. Burdens are much easier to share when they are spread across many.

Likewise, I would not want to always be the person to offer as that is not fair to myself.

Hmm... I will admit that my idea of fairness to myself seem to be quite different from those of others.

[He pauses for a moment. Then:]

We should be able to. And even when we cannot... Just because we don't understand one another's limits does not make it fair to push people beyond them.

No, it does not.

But it is also not fair to push yourself when you are unaware of your own limits.

Or perhaps is there a reason you find yourself exempt?

Not very. Sometimes... not at all. Things that seem obvious to me appear to be incomprehensible or at times laughable to others.

A fair assessment.

Though I believe most would disagree with you when you say they do not push themselves past their limits. It is because a human's life is so short, that they have to burn the brightest.

It's just the how they accomplish that which varies.

Re: MIRROR ROOM

[personal profile] weenwoon 2021-09-28 09:06 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I do not doubt that. It is more that... Doing all one can for others is expected in my world. Humans tend to be more... selfish, perhaps. Not necessarily a bad thing, but it leaves me feeling... unsuitable for their society.
