Is there a limit to the type of sword you can make? Would it be possible to make one out of, say, a black wood instead of metal?

Surely if we hide beneath them, a little of the light should be blocked from our own gazes, however. Perhaps we can line them with our top shirts... or the AlcheME cloaks?
