"Welcome," the professor says, cheerfully, tapping a stack of papers on her desk. "I'm glad you've finally arrived, since your assignment is due soon. I hope you were paying attention to the material, since I'm expecting a paper on the topic of its meaning."
this is hope's soulscape isn't it. how could their partner who is a teacher have an inner sanctum that is a place of learning. besides the fear of inadvertently altering her in some way, they really just,

Yes, um, which assignment, exactly? There are many.
"Did Blackboard eat my assignments again... I swear... That is to say—the paper on the material we just viewed. To put to an argument what it means, and provide supporting evidence for your argument."
She looks at you, and pauses. "Oral arguments are also acceptable."
"I was going to place the due date in five hours, but, er... since you all look a bit bewildered, I suppose I can be persuaded to allow for some extensions. Your best chance at full marks is to turn it in on the earlier side, though."
She tilts her head back at the areas behind her. "Thankfully, there's a lot of materials here that you can use to research. I can also provide a little bit of assistance—there's also a computer center where you can search for keywords."
"Welcome," the professor says, briskly, tapping a stack of papers on her desk. "I'm glad you've finally arrived, since your assignment is due soon. I hope you were paying attention to the material, since I'm expecting a paper on the topic of its meaning."
"Do they keep passing people into my class without making them take the writing seminar? I'm really going to send a sternly-worded e-mail to the office of the registrar."
She pinches the bridge of her nose. "A written argument? Presenting a thesis supported by evidence?"
Ah, yes! I suppose it is mostly done in the spoken form where I come from. Ultimately a debate, as it were, though also an evaluation of the pupil's reasoning and skill at oratory.
[nodnod!
... but uh]
And we've already been presented with all the material?
"The library here should contain anything you need for evidence, as far as primary sources, references, that sort of thing—you can use your own field research, of course, but it's not required."
She pinches the bridge of her nose. "That's not supposed to be happening. I'll see if I can do something about it, but—well, don't go in there. Is the rest going all right?"
"Meteorite? It seems the other one was a deorbited satellite... Ugh. This is really poor timing. I'll get it taped off, and—has there been anything else?"
"A satellite is a communications relay that gets put in orbit above the planet. Some of them are for connecting different networks; some of them are for gathering data and relaying it down to the surface—they're useful. And—no, it's not supposed to happen, someone's messing around."
"At this point I'm just exasperated. Heavy-handed metaphor, come on. I'll see if I can deal with it, so you don't have to worry about it. There should be enough time."

Er, Professor--something crashed into the writing lounge. From the sky. Is that supposed to happen?
