You'd be surprised at how many people jump for the chance to avoid punishment. There was a pretty nasty game where we had to vote for people to punish based on their "sins" and the more we voted for others, the safer we'd be.
One unit voted for everyone each round and the others all fought to catch up. I'm sure the drama of everyone trying to make those excruciating decisions while realizing they might be sacrificing others needlessly when their own fates were sealed was extremely fun for the audience.
There isn't anyone holding us at gunpoint to do it.
...But if you want to, you can tell the others that. Personally, while I don't mind withholding the entertainment they want from us, I don't enjoy dying, either.
