Great black stags chased her, and their eyes shone blue.
Monsters scrambled after her through the bush, though they found her not.
Stumbling on a log, she fell and thought to surrender, and end the torment of the hunt—

Um. Why...?

Hm.

"I take it you didn't get an explanation?"

...This is hilarious but also, she only grows more convinced that the child really knows how to pick his friends, eh?

She moves to sit on the lid, getting herself comfortable. "Well, if this is supposed to be a world where he has all he desires, and no worries to deal with, then there's no need for either 'hope' or 'anxiety' for the future, yes? Those are what I am."

"The fact that I'm still here means the premise of this world can't hold up, once he acknowledges me. And he cannot deny me to my face."

[Settling down also for an Actual Explanation Please.]

Are you... a personification of them, or simply a person who represents those things from his past?

"Hmm...it's complicated, so let's go with 'both'."

Yeah, that sounds about right.

"The 'me' who existed in reality was someone powerful, and he stands to eventually reach something similar. One needs power to achieve their desires, but having power also means you bear responsibility, too. So you could say I personify those feelings because he considers me representative of them."

Could you explain more about who you were in reality, then?

[At this point they're maybe just curious about the whole thing.]

"My, you're quite curious..."

She doesn't say this like it's a bad thing, however. If anything, she sounds more thoughtful. "I can't tell you anything he himself doesn't know, of course. It's probably a rather incomplete picture, if that's something you're fine with."

There's so much I don't know about him, I don't think the story being incomplete will make that much of a difference.

"Fufu, very well!"

She seems to be debating exactly how much finicky detail she wants to get into; there's no need to explain absolutely everything to understand the gist, after all.

"Whee he's from, the gods are provably real, and they can bless mortals with a shard of their power. The Unconquered Sun is among the highest of gods, and his Chosen are called Solars. The 'real' me was one of them who lived over a millennium ago, and the fledgling ended up inheriting her blessing in the present."

Blessings being... her responsibilities and her powers? What sorts of responsibilities would that be?

"Her powers specifically, he's not too sure what her actual responsibilities were. Though, I suppose he wouldn't be surprised if for some reason he ended up having to deal them, too."

"For the time being, the only responsibilities he knows he inherited from her are the kind people talk ethics about, when you have a lot of power."

You have a duty to ensure your power isn't used unjustly, I suppose... that's what people would hope for at least.
