Nemesis and Hurricane's Ideal World: Session 2

[The sky above is a deep, unnatural crimson, filled with roiling clouds and creatures that are a sickly oil-slick black. They writhe and wriggle like something out of a Lovecraftian nightmare; they have entirely too many eyes, and entirely too many wings, and when they open their mouths, they have entirely too many teeth]

[Below them, the city of Tokyo is half-shattered; above the rooftops, mechanized suits the size of people hover in the air, darting in out of the chaos, laser blasts and explosions and wickedly sharp blades fighting tirelessly against the endless onslaught]

[Until finally, the last creature falls]

[All at once, civilians flood the streets of the city; the lights come on in all the buildings, which somehow have become whole again, safe and unharmed. A cheer goes up from the crowd. Overhead, a stunning fireworks display paints the night with light and color]

[And they all lived happily ever after]

You have the look of someone who isn't happy, so I assume you know what this is.

[ Just is quietly, intensely full of rage right now ]

[ Zari— ] [ He turns and gives her a wan smile. ]

We're all asleep, but this is their dream world. It's... gonna be something that makes them happy, so they won't wanna leave.

[ Beat. ]

It wasn't totally clear what'll happen if we can't get them to come with us, but the vibe I got was 'maybe they never wake up'.

[ Pardon this look of open horror ]

Like hell they're not coming with us. [ But, glancing around, she doesn't actually look so sure. ]

[ Okay, focusing. He shuts his eyes for a beat, then opens them and focuses on her face. Smiles. ]

Of course they are. We'll make sure of it.

[ Wishes he knew more of Nemesis's people, though. So far he sees mostly people he knows are Hurry's. ]

[ Quietly, ]

I just got her back from that grey mess. [ FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION ]

[ ...But at least there's one for sure. ]

How well do you know her? Do you wanna take point on talking to her, when we find them?

[ Shrugging, utterly not casual, ]

About as well as I can know anyone with how new I am. We talked enough, but -- [ well, you get the idea. ]

[ He'll take it. Brings a hand up light to rest on her upper back. ]

Just means we need to learn everything we can about this place. What makes it so appealing for her, so that we can remind her of everything she'd be missing if she stayed.

[ It's unclear whether she's unconvinced or is just too upset to be emotive about it. ]

I think the appealing part is pretty clear. I'd much rather fight something than try to convince someone to leave their paradise, even if it isn't real.

...I know.

[ And hand on her shoulder, light pressure. ]

But you might be our best shot here at reminding her of all the good parts of the real world.

Yeah, and go through her head in the process.

[ Sighing, and pulling it together. ] If I can find her, that's the plan. But if I have to drag her, I'm doing it.

...Good.

[ Softer. ]

That's the right attitude to have.

[ Smile slanting. ]

We can apologize for the invasion of privacy after they're safe.
