Nemesis and Hurricane's Ideal World: Session 3

[The sky above is a deep, unnatural crimson, filled with roiling clouds and creatures that are a sickly oil-slick black. They writhe and wriggle like something out of a Lovecraftian nightmare; they have entirely too many eyes, and entirely too many wings, and when they open their mouths, they have entirely too many teeth]

[Below them, the city of Tokyo is half-shattered; above the rooftops, mechanized suits the size of people hover in the air, darting in out of the chaos, laser blasts and explosions and wickedly sharp blades fighting tirelessly against the endless onslaught]

[Until finally, the last creature falls]

[All at once, civilians flood the streets of the city; the lights come on in all the buildings, which somehow have become whole again, safe and unharmed. A cheer goes up from the crowd. Overhead, a stunning fireworks display paints the night with light and color]

[And they all lived happily ever after]

[The end]

[The beeping continues, heartbeat-slow and mechanical. There is no other response]

[ How lonely...

In that case, there's nothing for it except to try to follow the sound to its source. ]

[There are a number of doors down the hallway. Metal plaques next to each door list names such as Yosano or Eze or Hashimoto. The sounds seem to be coming from within.

You really don't like being here. Which is probably for the best, because just then you hear a voice calling back from near the house. It sounds like Hurricane:]

Dude, where are you going? You better not be late.

[And then Nemesis:]

Party time! Get over here!

[Faintly, from outside you hear the sounds of a celebration]

[Hadn't you better head to the party?]

[ calling back over her shoulder ] Don't worry! We'll be there very soon—

[ But there's something here; she's sure of it. Something Hurricane and Nemesis would rather not think about—and that's exactly the sort of thing she needs to make sure they don't forget.

She gives a nod to Valumi, then pushes open the first door with a nameplate. ]

[The nameplate says 'YOSANO']

[The hospital room is bleak and white]

[A figure lies in the hospital bed, so swathed in bandages that it's impossible to make out many details. The heart-rate monitor beeps periodically, the pulse too slow.]

[There is a chair beside the bed, empty]

Chivalry... Do you know what these machines do? They are strange to me, but this whole place... feels like it sits at the border of death.

[ Carefully—movements cautious and almost gentle—she moves to occupy the chair at the bedside. ]

Yosano...? Can you hear us?

[The figure does not move. There is no response at all]

[There is a clipboard containing medical records by the foot of the bed. Upon further examination, it details a long, long list of injuries for one Hina Yosano. She's in a coma, not expected to wake]

[ softly ] So even in this dream... they cannot heal their friends.

[ If she and Valumi go to check on the other rooms with nameplates, are the patients in similar states? ]

[In the room next door, "Eze" twitches and moans in her sleep, uneasy]

[Her hair is shorn short, and she's recovering from injuries, though the bandages aren't as extensive here. Her chart indicates that she's been heavily sedated, and has been regularly, which probably explains why she doesn't wake regardless of stimulus]

[Further down the hallway, "Hashimoto" is wrapped up in enough bandages and machines that it seems half her face is gone in addition to most of her limbs.]

[There are more, but you know they're all the same. You've spent enough time here already, haven't you?]

[ Have they, though? Has anyone? ]

Chivalry...
I think we should bring them with us—or as many as is practical. It would be... a powerful reminder of what is at stake—and what work will be left undone, if Hurricane and Nemesis choose to stay asleep.

Do you think you could modify some of these machines, so that if we carry these patients with us, they will not be without...ah, whatever function the machines are serving?

Mm, of course. I've got my tools and there's plenty of raw material around, so I should be able to make most of this stuff portable.

[ she's gonna go inspect the equipment, in fact ]

[You can do a moderate amount of science]

[You won't be making them walk or anything but if you can think of a way to get them and their gear mobile, they probably won't die on the way most likely]
