❍ Over the course of the heart, characters are very likely to be afflicted with STATUS EFFECTS. This will be OOCly determined by dice roll. You can have more than one status effect at a time, but multiples of the same don't stack.

The top levels that require a roll will have a note.

Each time you move to a different top level thereafter, you can roll 1d10 to see whether the effect lingers (1-6) or fades (7-10).

Surprise! There's a man sitting on one of the sturdy branches, dressed in black jeans, a blue waistcoat, and a shirt with the top three buttons undone. The pin on his lapel matches the logo on your phone.

"Hey, man. You're in Miya's — that's Tea, to you — heart."

Oh. Cool. [he has so many other questions but u know what, just Accepts]

Who are you? Are you from another unit? I know she has a boyfriend somewhere.

Barks a laugh, "Me? Nope, I'm someone she knows from home. Name's Ryouta! And you're Pip."

That's her nickname for me, yeah. [a beat] Oh okay, I think I get it now. You're like--a real memory of someone she knows. That I can somehow interact with. Alright, not thinking about it harder than that.

So where is she? I'd say this is a nice place if not for the horrific plummet toward earth.

"That's me! I'm her partner's brother."

Plucks an apple, munches.

"Unfortunately, she's a li'l missing at the mo. Or a lot missing. It's kind of a problem."

[wat. Scrambling up, trying to steady on his feet. ANY MORE PLUMMETS TO EARTH, BRAIN?? NO??]

Why?? Then we've gotta find her! Where'd you last see her? Does this tree have a door like in her room. . .?

"Something's gotten fucky, is all we know. There's not a whole lot we can do to help. You guys might have better luck, assuming you don't, like, die in the attempt."

If falling from who knows where didn't kill me, I'm definitely not going to die until I find her!

[Huffs!! ATTEMPTS....TO CLIMB TREE.....he is noodly but nimble]

Welcome to the tree!! It's sturdy and very climable!

There are only three things in the tree: Ryou, Tree Things, and what looks to be a nest tucked into a cosy nook.

"Welp! I'll be cheering you on, bud."

I could use more than a cheer if I'm being honest. . .

[that's fine, he mostly wanted to get up for a VANTAGE POINT. peering out to see if he can spot anything else strange in the garden with those heightened senses.

The nest is nice and sturdy, built of sticks and lined with soft grasses, flower petals, and soft fluffy feathers. An apple sits in the middle. There's no birds tho, and -

[was curiously about to take a bite of the apple but he HEARD THAT SCREAM. HE KNOWS SCREAMS]

[sliding down the tree!! taking apple with him]

[listening for anything again!! which direction it came from, etc]

"Huh? Hear what?"

He strains ... and he hears it again, coming from somewhere around the stream.

That! Someone's yelling! [HEADS BACK TO THE STREAM, looking around. does he need to stick his head back in the water HE WILL DO SO]

"Are they???"

You think you caught a glimpse of something … a streak of red, quickly swirled away by the rush of water?

GETTING BACK IN THE WATER]

Yeah, someone might be bleeding? Maybe it's coming from upstream--damn, this is so cold!

[time to tread water!! looking around for more signs]

--that's really specific, but no. Like I saw something red in the water, and a scream in the air. Maybe I was just seeing things though? [climbing out of the water]

Wait, are there fire engines around here?

"They're the first thing that come to mind when I think of "red" and "loud"." A DISTANT SHRUG, "They always hurt Miya's ears. Big oof."
