pep!pep! - UNSCORED BONDING BARTEND SESSION
[ At some point in the nebulous post-game future, the unit is summoned to the Game Tower, and directly to a bar.
The bar is unit-colored with light unit paraphernalia, although it's all just for show. Fortunately, comfort isn't part of the unit aesthetic this time—all seats are cushioned, whether the booth seats or the bar stools, comfy and lush. Idols can sit anywhere they like, it seems.
There's alcohol available, but everything else is locked behind the wall-cabinet. . . the recipe book is also available to peruse at one's leisure.
Ah—the door opens, and a fuzzy sort of shade steps in. It looks like idols will be serving the Damned, today. . . ? ]

When people were warning about games, this...isn't really what I had in mind?
[ She's reaching over the bar to grab something at random, popping it open to sniff at it. She cringes away from the smell of alcohol. ]
People are supposed to drink this?

Sometimes they're fine, other times dangerous. This looks like one of the better one.
Does it smell that bad?

[ She huffs out a laugh, rubbing at hers. ]
I've mostly only smelled it when other people have had too much. I didn't think alcohol would smell this much like antiseptic.
no subject
Yeah, that's alcohol.
And it can clean wounds, so that makes sense.

What matters is the amount.

Like its not even a nicer world thing, I know we have alcohol in the Boiling Isles, and that place kills the weak all the time.

But if someone weak decides to pick a fight with someone stronger, then what happens is really their own fault.

In the Boiling Isles, if you had ability, or at least a way to make up for a lack of it, you were fine.

Re: MINGLE/DISCUSSION
[It shares more of a memory then he intended.]
[The memory starts with determination, fueled by worry and fear. He had to see this through. Then the human girl he's with holds out his staff to him and he reaches for it before hesitation grips him. He asks if she's sure.]
[She has to know. She has to know giving him the staff is a terrible idea. He should be eager to have it back, but as she insists on him taking it, he can't pretend the dark, twisting thing in his heart wishes she hadn't. Now he'll have to make a choice and he hates it.]
[They bring Kikimora down, Luz rushes to the Palismen, and the dark feeling grow as he stares at her back. He looks to the staff because he has power now. He hates it will be so easy now. He looks up at the nest and even as the dark feeling feels like its choking him, his grip tightens on the staff as he points it at her back.]
[She knew what she was doing when she handed back the staff. She knows this would happen. This is how things work. Never be in the way of the wants of someone stronger then you, if you get stabbed in the back, its your fault. Its her fault, she should have thought this through.]
[She even knows it as she turns to face him. His teeth are grinding together hard, unable to say anything as he fights down the dark twisting feeling, focuses on his mission. He has to get those palismen. Nothing Else Matters.]
['I know what he does with them.' Dark feelings, twisting guilt, horror, pity, nothing else matters. His uncle has to do it. He has to do this. Even if he doesn't want to, he has to.]
['I thought you might be a good guy.' She's the criminal. He's doing his job. He's helping his family and his emperor. Just because he isn't doing what she wants doesn't make him bad. Nothing else should matter, but the mission.]
['You're not my friend.' Of course they're not friends. He wishes they were. He doesn't need friends. But she had trusted him and he doesn't understand why she's acting like this wasn't what was going to happen. Why was she taking it so personally. Of course he was going to stab her in the back. Its just how these things work. He's the weird one for giving her a chance to move out of the way! Even if they were working together, she knew this would happen. Why is she acting otherwise?]
[The mission is the only thing that should matter...]
[But he wants-]
['You're just the Golden Guard.']
[And those dark, twisting feelings he's been repressing, fighting back, trying to grit his teeth through break through, constricting around his heart and his harden expression breaks. Just the Golden Guard. Just the Golden Guard, the coven head, the mask, the persona, the symbol. The Golden Guard is everything he should be. To be Just The Golden Guard is the ideal.]
[But the thought that Luz would only see him as the Golden Guard makes him feel like he's going to drown in these dark feelings and he wants-]
[He needs-]
[He needs someone else to see him and not just the Golden Guard.]
[He needs someone else to know who Hunter is and he gives his name before he can think twice, and suddenly he can't feel anything at all save a deep longing for...something...]
[Hope, perhaps.]
[But he doesn't know for what.]
[And then he's hit in the head and emotions and doubts and fears are thrown aside as he sees a blast headed for Luz, quick to deflect and rushes for Kikimora because this is simple. He won't let himself be hurt, he won't let Luz be hurt, and honestly, Kikimora is a convenient punching bag for a lot of very conflicted feelings. He keeps track of Luz enough to know when Kikimora is a danger to her, but otherwise, what Luz is doing is secondary.]
[Kikimora also has a brooch that matches the brand on Rufous' inner wrist. She's a lot easier to hurt then Luz.]
[When Kikimora is down, he watches Luz fly away and he knows. He knows he can catch up to her. He's fast enough. He knows she wouldn't even let the creature eat him. He knows he can take the palismen back.]
[There is a deep fear what will happen to him if he doesn't. He knows the cost of failure is high.]
[But as strong as the fear is, there is that dark twisting feeling that shifts and changes into a desperate hope. Maybe there is a better way. He wants there to be a better way.]
[And this time, just barely, the hope wins out over the fear.]
[So he watches her fly away, doubting all his choices for the night.]
Re: MINGLE/DISCUSSION
Sometimes, doing the right thing isn't easy, you know?
[Hesitant. Maybe he can sense how much she wants to reassure him, to help. She takes a breath.]
Where I'm from, Hunters were like that too. That feeling you had about wanting to focus on your mission? I understand it really well, even if it's not something I've experienced for myself. Hunters were like that more often than not.
Re: MINGLE/DISCUSSION
[The feeling of wanting to help is...]
[Strange]
[Coming from an outside source and it just makes him uncertain.]
Its usually easy to do the right thing. I mean, my orders were clear, my uncle needed it done, and palismen are just...
Just creatures. [Doubt. Such doubt.]
But something about that human- [A flash of defensiveness, guarded as he says human over her name.] She made it sound like the wrong thing. [Because the problem is, he doesn't think he was doing the 'right' thing. He was doing the thing he Wanted.] Like...like my uncle isn't doing it for the greater good. Like his every moment isn't about trying to help the Isles.
I'm sure if there was another option then....whatever happens to the palismen, he'd do it, but I don't know how much time he has.
Re: MINGLE/DISCUSSION
[She's not out here trying to make him feel like he should doubt his uncle. She understands. There is still right and wrong but that sort of thing is subjective, even if she isn't always able to see that when it comes to herself.
It reminds her a little of her other father. Of Kaname. She only knew pieces from her parents but got the general sense that she knew all of his past, even if he could no longer remember it.]
Is he running out of time? Like... something is happening to him or your home?
Re: MINGLE/DISCUSSION
My uncle is cursed. Something is eating away at him. You can see it eating away his flesh and any outbursts of magic causes him pain. [A flicker of fear.] I think the palismen might help with it, but that's only a guess from a flow of conversation.
And something is happening in the isles, but that...we need more force and we need more unity. I recruited abomination specialists to bolster our forces. And I-
The Golden Guard was made the head of the Emperor's Coven to promote the idea of serving the greater good over one's self. [A deep, tired resignation.]
But I don't know what its for.
