Neither of them are far enough to escape the plume of dirt and dust, the rocks that shower from above as it caves in [DMG DICE ROLL 3, 3 DAMAGE TO BOTH ] ]
[you can see his face darken a second the moment he realizes what's happening, but he'd rather NOT get crushed by falling rocks so he backs out of the tunnel at the rumbling walls, still not avoiding being hit by a rock, ow.]
