START: Pentagram Room

There's something just a little creepy about this room. Maybe it's the amnesia? Or maybe it's got something to do with the huge chalk pentagram you woke up in the middle of. The pentagram is surrounded by a ring of twenty eight candles in black and gold banana-shaped candleholders. The flames send the shadows in the otherwise dark room dancing ominously.

There's a wooden door to the East. For now, it's locked; there's nothing you can do to make it budge.

[ Waking up, he rubs at his eyes tiredly, before pushing himself up from the cold ground.]

[ . . . Wait. The cold... ground? ]

J-Jesus Christ!

[ Has he... been kidnapped?? Has he just been sacrificed to some sort of strange cult!? Time to pick up a candleholder in order to hold it defensively. ]

I demand that you stay back!

[After waking up, he looks at the strange boy holding a candleholder as if it were a weapon. Perhaps in a trained hand, but...]

Stand down, boy. Were I interested in attacking you, that stick of yours would do you more harm than good.

[When he wakes up, he feels so stiff, what with the laying on stone. Why is there nothing in his head when he scans for information? No, that's not entirely true, he remembers some things, though only brief flashes; training when he was young, caring for his daughter, but not much else.]

What is this place?

[He wakes up, gets off the creepy floor, and tries to speak. Possibly to scream, or to cry, or to ask what's going on.

Whatever he was going to do, he can't do it. He moves his mouth but no sound comes out. With a distraught expression, he puts his hand over his throat.

There's other people here, too. He edges away from them, though there's nowhere to really run.]

[ Not lowering his candlestick holder...! Though it's not like it looks as though he's ready to attack or anything. It's a very defensive position. ]

Lowering the only weapon at my disposal right now seems a rather foolish action. Who are you? And what, exactly, is it that you want with me?

W-Wait...? Why are you crying? S-Shouldn't that be my role right now? Or... could it be that you were also kidnapped here against your will?

P-Please do not cry? You will make me feel like a bully, but I was only trying to defend myself?

[That is a very tall man. Who is... also a captive, it looks like?

Does he remember any sign language, since he doesn't have anything to write with... He remembers a little, so it's worth a try, though he's not really expecting a random person to understand it.]

I don't know. I just woke up.

[Just giving the boy a look like "are you for real???". He's twice the size of the kid, and he is very certain that it would be no matter at all for him to make the candlestick he's holding more dangerous to it's wielder than to him.]

I am afraid I do not have answers for that question. Did you not see me rise from the same floor as you?

[When the other boy asks if he was also kidnapped, he nods frantically. Yes, that's the position he's in. He wipes his eyes and tries to sign at him.]

I don't know anything.

[There is absolutely no chance that this man from a fantasy setting in which the world is flat and they don't have electricity yet knows any sign language. He will just stare in silent confusion, trying to make sense of the gestures.]

............. Ah, so you are mute, I take it. I do not suppose you remember anything prior to this.

[He nods to both questions - he guesses he must be mute, since he can't talk, and he doesn't remember anything. He hangs his head. Sorry he can't help.]

But... if you are truthful, and are a victim yourself, then what on earth is happening? I cannot recall how I wound up here. Indeed, my memory feels spotty entirely.

[ He feels a little bad. ]

[He nods at that. It'd be okay if he had something to write with... Maybe they'll find something here?]

[ Looking upon his person and around the room. There was obviously chalk at some point. Maybe there is still some lying around? Or a discarded notebook... ]

[He nods in return.]

Very well. Do not despair, I shall lead the charge in escape.

[You should worry, he is not good at puzzles.]

[Looking around the dark room and... oh! There's a pen that was hard to spot, that's good enough.

He writes on his hand and shows it.]

[He bows a little, hoping that communicates 'thank you' well enough.]

Brainwashing... perhaps?

[ He sighs heavily. ]

I cannot say I understand what has happened to us, but, unlikely as we may all be as a team, it appears we must navigate our way out of this troubling situation. I see a door, so perhaps we ought to try it?

[ Time to inspect the door. ]

[While he's inspecting the door, gonna feel around some of those shadowy corners to see if there's anything he might have missed by sight.]
