The temple has a large bell in the center, inscribed with laws-- many of them archaic, irrelevant to your situation here. Laws involving food preparation, laws involving cattle trade, laws involving how deeply one must bow to a father-in-law... But in each of the four cardinal directions there are four long scrolls unfurled and hanging like tapestries.
The four large scrolls of oaths on the walls read:
Oath of the Loyal: For so long as you swear loyalty to me and stay by my side, may you be granted glory and strength. Oath of the Gentle: I undertake this vow-- for if I raise a blade against another, may I be pained in kind. Oath of the Brave: I swear I am no coward- for so long as the battle rages, I will not turn tail and flee. Oath of the Lover: By this vow I am bound- should you or I be harmed, let us share the pain and halve our burden.
Beneath those oaths are smears of blood, thumbprints and handprints. This might be a really good or really bad place to meet one of Taisho Roman Revolution.
Mechanics If a member of Taisho who has the Swear on Your Honor ability gets another to sign their name or smear their blood on one of those contracts, the following effects will be granted or inflicted:
Oath of the Loyal: +2 strength for as long as the signee stays in the same area as their contractor, without betraying them.
Oath of the Gentle: Any damage the signee does with a blade damages them too. Damage dealt barehanded, through skill use, or with any non-bladed tools or weapons is unaffected.
Oath of the Brave: Characters that sign this contract cannot attempt to retreat from combat until the other party surrenders, flees, etc.
Oath of the Lover: When either the signee or the contractor takes damage, the damage is halved, with half the damage going to the other contracted party.
[He laughs. That's cute. And with his first move he's going to activate Achilles Radar to kick the bell at Sunshine. STR (11) 1 1 6. Well, that's a bell coming at you.]
[What is he a pin cushion? Apparently, at least he is able to soak four of that damage as he turns to the side but that's still major ouchies.
First off, what negative emotions are you feeling there Sunshine? Fear. Anger. Or is there any delicious hesitation he might be able to boast? He's hunting with Eris Alert.
And he's going to try to punch him in the face at close quarters for 4 damage of his own.]
[ He actually likes fighting... But I guess there's some regret from failing Thorn. And we'll say he's too close to evade that hit but also close enough to hit him with Bzzt for 1 HP and stun effect. ]
[Bzzt was not the skill to use, Sunshine. Not the skill to use at all. He goes from amused to pissed in under a second, and he's using Machai Provocation to amplify that regret as high as it can go.
[ Stumbles back for a moment, remembering the feeling of Thorn dying because he hadn't intervened sooner. Because he had wanted so much to protect Thorn's damn pride. And here he's doing it again, trying to preserve pride with a fair fight.
Here's the problem with regret, it makes you act really really stupid. Which means Sunshine is lunging at him again with a sweeping strike for 7 damage. ]
[He dodges 5 of that. In other words he jumps inside of Sunshine's range hands going for his throat to shove him down and start strangling him with a snarl. The extra jolt from his electrified sword doesn't make him any happier. In fact, he's getting sick of you pep!pep!s and that particular power. But he is at 7 HP, so bloodied as they say in DnD.
It does 4 damage, but mostly his goal is to get him prone on the ground so he can squeeze harder.
This has now moved from friendly fight to aggressive fight territory.]
[ So this hurts a lot but you've also fucked with his head and are triggering some very bad pings that he doesn't even understand but have him dropping his sword in panic... ]
[ oh that definitely catches her attention. but the fact it looks friendly enough keeps her from saying anything or even considering interfering, so Gladiolus props her axes up against the wall and watches quietly. ]
[ yeah that's... concerning. it gets Gladiolus to pick her axes back up to be safe though she leaves them at her sides. if it looks like someone is going to die/if someone does die, she'll probably do something.
also thank the fans and the magic box!! she also has throwing knives, because two axes aren't enough. ]

Oh, it is. Trust me. The point of this is to enjoy our good brawl, and I saw you eyeing the sword.
It isn't going to help you anyway. Victory is mine.
