No. It's because they're wrong about that. He's not happy to die in this kind of situation. I should know that better than anyone. So I don't care what he says, I want to save him.

And of course I want to save Angel, too. She's my friend, and she's also important to Intensity, and he can't really protect her when it's like this.

He may be lying, but ultimately there are a great many people that would prefer not to die in this situation. In the end, he and Angel are the ones you wish to save.
