But I don't think it's deriding them either to acknowledge that on the flip side, it makes the times where we have to pick and negotiate our interests hard. That's just the damned reality of the situation. Doesn't mean they're worth any less.
Mars is advocating that we should simply live without them because it would be better that way. You and I both know that this place makes the impossible happen every day. And if he's not careful, some day they might just tinker with his heart and head enough to make his wish come true.
He's saying it knowing damn well he failed to follow his own advice. I don't think he'd even want us to follow it seriously despite how he acts about it.
This is the first time he and I are in a game where we're told "hey, go pick a unit, their literal lives depend on your choice" and now we have to sort that out. Are you even trying to understand where he's coming from?
Of course I understand! Do you know how many times they've made us hurt people we care about? This isn't the first of the last time they've asked us to decide who lives and who dies, and it sucks but we've always understood that our relationships were an important key to making it through this place.
