[ The room is BRIGHT YELLOW, as all the rooms you will enter are. Black tiles make up the floor, changing to your unit's color when pressure is placed on them. There is a button in the very center of the room standing on a podium; it's slightly smaller than palm-sized.]

[ this has to be the single worst match up for fox.
save, of course, for one of his friends, because flashbacks. ]

[ yugi looks to the button at the center of the room. ]

How did you and King decide who should continue the last time?

He allowed me to continue. I believe most of Heart Soldier Senshi threw the game.

[ king... ]

I see. [ and he's not completely surprised. ] If not for the rest of pep!pep! on the line I might be willing to do the same, but I...

I want to protect my team. [ he doesn't like seeing them hurt. ] And I don't expect you to let me just pass, so, ah, how should we... what... [ what should we do? ]

I also want to protect Taisho. I... do not wish to fight you, however.

[even with his sword at his side, he makes no move to unsheathe it]

If neither of us are willing to stand down, then... perhaps a test of skill, of some kind?

[ he doesn't carry a weapon, but with their powers on he could have easily made a dash for the button, but he's just not that kind of person. ]

A game of skill would be fine by me.

[ he has a couple of deck boxes strapped to his obnoxious belts, so he reaches for one in particular. ]

I have a deck of cards. We can play War. [ shuffles the deck in some over the top and dramatic way, because this is what he does when he's nervous, apparently. ]

We each draw a card and the higher card wins. If we draw the same card we have a war. Three cards go face down and we flip the fourth... that last card will determine the winner and the one who gets to move on.

[ if fox is ok with that, then he'll pass the deck over to him, so he can cut it. ]

[it's more of a game of chance than skill, but it's fair enough. fox gives him a small smile and sits down on the floor in seiza, and cuts the deck]

It sounds simple enough. Very well, let us play.

[ fox is more skilled with a blade and yugi is more skilled with a deck. he figured a game of chance would be more fair, though he obviously didn't say as much aloud. ]

[ he didn't want to have an advantage, since fox clearly could have had one if they were to fight. ]

Let's begin!

[ he sits down across from fox and takes half the deck, overturning the first card - the 10 of ♥. ]

[fox turns over his card: the nine of spades]

You take these cards, correct?

Yep.

[ he gathers up the cards and puts them under his 'deck'. ]

[ this goes on for some time, the both of them taking turns winning and losing and claiming the small stacks of cards until finally... war. ]

...oh. [ and on a couple of kings, no less. yugi counts his three cards and then flips the final card to reveal another king. ]

[ his eyes briefly flicker to fox, because it looks like he's got this in the bag. ]

[SWEATING, HIS BROWS FURROWED, FOX FLIPS OVER THE LAST CARD TO REVEAL...!!!!!!!

an ace.

for a moment he just blinks in shock at how the cards have laid out.]

Oh...

[ yugi blinks, staring at the ace, but then looking to fox with a smile as he offers him a hand. ]

Good game, Fox. I wish you all the luck in the world.

Please win.

[fox takes a deep breath and lets it out before shaking yugi's hand firmly]

I will do the best I can. For you, and for Taisho. When this is over... I shall find you again.

[ yugi gathers up all of the cards, but passes the winning ace along to fox. ]

I'm looking forward to it. [ the remaining cards are returned to his deck box as he stands there to await his fate. ]

[with a nod, fox takes the card and slips it into his pocket]

I'll return this at that time.

[and he goes over to press the button]
