Heart Game: Duality - Round 3

Your sleep is restless, and it's hard to settle as your eyelids refusing to stop twitching, and you can feel an itch at the back of your mind, flashes of uncomfortable thoughts dipping in and out of your dreams, constantly interrupting your tries to relax. ... Are you even asleep?

Apparently you were, because you wake up with a start, cheek pressed uncomfortably to steel flooring and flickering lights overhead. Unfortunately, you don't feel very rested at all.

Flat | Top-Level Comments Only

This room is a huge, no, VAST cave. It’s covered in ice and snow, jagged black and blue icicles protruding from almost every available surface, a blueish dark light illuminating the space. It’s almost pretty in a way, but it feels cold and oppressive. It’s clear now that this is the barred off area you saw when you entered the basement, as the bars are visible further ahead. In the middle of all this ice is a dark lake. It’s iced over but it looks precariously thin. What looks like a slab of rock sticks out from the middle of the lake, and upon closer inspection you can see a cat, tightly curled up on it, shivering against the cold. If you look closer at the lake, you can see shapes of items on the bottom, clearly things that don’t belong there.

You could risk stepping across the ice for the cat, even break the ice to get to the items on the bottom of it, or you could choose to take the long way around the lake to get to the other side and get out of here. The air is freezing after all, and you don’t want to stay here for too long.

On the other side of the lake stands a figure, completely still, almost like a statue.

There seems to be another door behind him, though it's completely iced over.

[ guess who does BADLY with the cold. He was going to put the kitty down, but now he's going to keep it warm inside his jacket. ... Except there's a cat in the middle of the lake. ]

[ it's freezing cold so removing the jacket so he can keep emperor death warm is not an option. ]

[ all right. It's time to try and get that kitty ]

[The slab of rock isn't very large, but hopefully you can land on it without slipping into the lake??

Regardless, the cat curled up on it startles as Hardcore comes flying, scrambling back slightly, hackles raised.]

Come on. We're saving you, don't be a dipshit. Say something, Emperor Death.

[You have to grab a hold of the rock to not slip and fall, and you manage to hold onto it.

The cat hisses, but seems to calm a little at seeing Catuality.

Catuality in turn snorts slightly. ...that wasn't a laugh, was it? He probably just sneezed.]

[ it better have been just a sneeze. But he's going to keep grabbing on the rock with one hand, and hold the other to the kitty, hoping it'll come there ]

[It takes a few moments before it carefully steps forward, closer to Hardcore and his hand, cautiously nudging its head against his hand.]

[ okay he's gonna go for some ear scritches ]

[...ear scritchies are acceptable.

It's fur is wet, and it seems it probably took a dip at some point. No wonder it's shivering.]

[ if he can take this cat too it's TIME TO SHOVE IT IN HIS JACKET ]

[You somehow manage to wrangle a second cat into your jacket. You big softie you.]

[ He should have come here with Amaranth's outfit for him then he could have fit so many cats in there

BUT OKAY. NOW IT'S TIME TO TRY AND GET TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE LAKE ]

[You blast your way safely over to the other side of the lake, beside the statue.

The statue that turns out to not be a statue at all, but Duality himself, only with his entire left side covered in black crystalline spikes, half his face obscured by a grim mask with a row of jagged teeth.]

[ hold on first thing first gonna make sure the cats are okay. Still keeping them in his jacket because it's cold, okay. He will just deal with the claw marks and all that.

But once that's taken care of he'll just stare. He'd ask himself what's wrong with him but to be honest, after seeing that shit in the labyrinth, he's pretty sure the answer is "a lot" ]

Duality turns to look at him, face a little unreadable.]

[ immediately moving a hand to the cats' head so he can just. pet them ]

... Only one of them, Emperor Death was just roaming around.

[He's about to say something, but pauses at the name. He sounds confused, a little taken back.]

"Emperor Death"...?

It's short for Emperor Gruesome Death the Bloody, fifth. Who are you?
