Heart Game: Hurricane - Run 3

[At first, all is still; all is silent.]

[The only light is the light from your phone, where a checklist has taken over the screen. It reads:]

___ Repair something
___ Protect something
___ Find the True Heart
___ Survive

[Then the light comes up, bright, and then brighter, and you are in…]

[She has enough presence of mind to remember to heal herself, at least--

[Why? Why bother? What good will it do?

[But she tries, she tries, she tries - even if it doesn't matter, even if she's useless or worse than it, she tries, because it's all she knows how to do.]

[WIS: 16]

[Your mind remains strong. The harbingers catch at you with their claws, though for 24 (3 dam) and 8.]

[She has to think of herself again: she claws back another bit of strength, but it's less and less each time.

[And again. And again. Keep trying.

[On the third beat. One, two, three, four.]

[DEX: 7]
[WIS: 15]

[The whispers swirls around you, seeping deep into your mind.]

That's how it always is, though, isn't it? That's nothing new.

You know what you can offer, and what you offer just isn't good enough.

[Sure enough, your attack fails.]

[They attack in turn, but at 10 and 12, it doesn't do much]

[She heals herself, again...

[What else can she do. What else can she--

[--weak. selfish.

[selfish selfish selfish bitch--

[She can protect herself, barely, maybe. For a time.]

[DEX: 14]
[WIS: 21]

[She fails to hit again, but at least her mind stays strong.]

[One of Sabre's grenades took out a harbinger attack you, but the other shrieks and thrashes, lunging out for an unimpressive 9]

[One, two, three, four.

[Wednesday raises the bow again. One, two, dashes tears from her eyes. Her hands are shaking as she draws back the string.

[Focus. Focus. It's what they want--

[Lets fly the arrow, and slumps.

[And one, two, three, four.]

[DEX: 17]
[DAM: 5]
[WIS: 9]

[This time, the arrow hits home. The creature screams and lashes out, but with a 16, its claws scrabble uselessly against your suit.]

[But the whispers just won't shut up]

You're in the way. Everyone is so strong, and fast, and brilliant, and you're just you.

You're only in the way again, the same as always.

[You have become infected. You are overcome by the urge to remove yourself from the presence of others, either by fleeing your allies or attempting to take your own life, until you are subdued.]

[and

[and that does it, doesn't it, because she's in the way, she's in the way, they'd have sorted this out long ago if she hadn't been here. Stupid, useless, Wednesday, the anchor around the neck, dragging everybody down with her again...

[No, she thinks.

[She thinks, not any more.]

I'm sorry.

[The bow is useless, so she drops it: of course it is, why else would they have given it to her? but the suit, the suit: if she simply flies up and cuts the power--

[Then, maybe they'd be okay.

[Then they'd win.

[Then, they'd live.]

[Wednesday smiles, shakily.]

[ She already pulling out more grenades to do more murder ]

He looks pretty messed up.

[ You ever seen a cat squeak and blush while double-fisting grenades?

[Sorry, monsters don't stop for friendship.]

[This one sucks at aim, though, so. Carry on.]

[And arrows.

[Arrows are involved, too - and this one's aim is true.]

[ATK: 4]

[It's hanging on by a thread, but it still has a little life left in it]

[With the last of its strength, it lunges for her with its claws extended, 24 (dam 3)]

[ Before it can manage to get Wednesday, though--there's a red blur getting in the way. Unarmed: all weapons dropped by the wayside, where she left Levi. ]

Don't you touch her!

[ Its claws rake into her back, drawing large amounts of blood--and she sinks to the ground, chest heaving. Not dead, but close. Purpose almost served. ]

[ Sabre whips around once Cobalt kills the last one diving them, assessing the scene and deciding it's pretty shitty.

CHUCKING A GRENADE OVER THERE, bless her aim.
