[ you're in space, my dude

specifically, you're over a reddish-orange planet that seems to be mostly desert, though with a canal system webbing across it that's large enough to be visible from space.

The people assembled nod to you. ]

Good evening—did you have some business to bring before the Crown Council, good sir?

[Wow! Good thing he doesn't have space-related traum-OH WAIT, YES HE DOES. He's not nervous or anything! That's what he tells himself when he finally manages to turn his eyes away from the view.]

Ah! I wonder... I am looking for Miss Naarabot. Have you seen our guest of honor...?

[ SORRY ABOUT SPACE ]

The First-Keeper—well, I don't think she'd come see us, now, would she. Considering she's running her little rebellion against the Crown, I'm imagining she and her cohort are holding court elsewhere.

[It's fine he'll just panic for the rest of the night.

Well.

That seems super odd, then.]

Would she be so foolish as to be the guest of honor to a function on the same ship as the Crown Council, then? This party seems out-of-place in such a case.

Well, the Countess insists that she wants to bring together the most interesting and best minds, and refuses to get political about it—and requests that we all refrain from violence while at the Salon. Unfortunately enough business gets conducted here that we can't quite snub her.

...she's a touch eccentric. Well-intentioned, at least, if foolish.

[Eichi nods at that, thinking that makes sense enough, though his thoughts are preoccupied, his teeth grinding a little as he tries(fails) not to think about it. It being The Space.]

Ah yes, she's fairly odd from what I know of her, but has been kind to me in the past. I'd no idea about the rebellion thing, though. What exactly is she rebelling for, anyway?

Independence of that little backwater state—Mars belonging to Martians, and so on, although her so-called Declaration of Independence talked a lot of big words about peoples' right to determine their own destinies, which the Irish won't shut up about now. Turning out British citizens from their own homes overnight and everything. Not that they'll be able to defend it for long.

[He nods in understanding. It does make sense, of course, but those in charge often don't think about that sort of thing, and he's still high-society enough to be aware of the reasons people in such positions would want to keep things that way.]

I don't think they really understand what that even means. [He doesn't care, he is an advocate of independence, but he is also, a liar.] Determining your own destiny sounds nice, but if we don't have a structure in our society, it's hardly useful to have such a choice, isn't it?

What a mess.

Anyway, I do want to see if I can't speak with her while I am here, so. Thank you gentleman, and lady, for your time. [He bows again, really slipping into that persona of "high society" as he tries to come off as sufficiently respectful.]

[ the gentleman with the glass of scotch gives you a curt nod, particularly. ]

If you do speak with her—we could lend you some influence, if you were to use it to help settle things down.

I would certainly prefer an end to this through diplomacy, if I've the influence to do so, sir.

[ he gives you the following influences:

2x "All's fair in love and war"
3x "The relentless march of empire"
1x "Pride goeth before a fall" ]

Thank you. I appreciate it greatly.

It is my pleasure, sir.
