IMPOCALYPSE
BATTLE MECHANICS
Note: characters that are heavily injured may acquire corruptions. There will be heavy maiming.
- This is a turn-based fight. PCs will take their turn, the boss will react, and then the boss will take their turn. Players will react and take their turn, and so on and so forth.
- You may take up to six actions in one turn, including dodge. You may attack up to 6 times if you're not dodging, and you can attack even if you are dodging or fail to dodge. If a swing delivers more than one attack (throwing multiple projectiles at the same time) then it's counted as one "action".
- With every strike/blow/attack, .roll 1d6 twice (or !2d6. MAKE SURE TO DO IT THIS WAY BECAUSE NADEKO IS A TRAITOR. The first dice determines whether your attack succeeds or fails, with 1-3 as fail and 4-6 as success. The second dice determines how much damage you inflict on the boss. Please include both numbers with your comment on your turn.
- Roll for every strike, not for every turn. If your character decides to shoot 4 times in succession, roll a 2d6 for every bullet.
- Green text can be dodged, but red text is guaranteed damage. Dodge by using a 1d6, 1-3 as fail and 4-6 as success.
- UNIT ABILITY MECHANICS ARE HERE, but please note: this is not the end-all be-all of how these powers can be used, and these are not the only powers that can be used in a fight, these are just the ones that affect rolls specifically. The session's runner always has the final say, so ask if you want to do something cool but you don't think it's street legal. (It probably is.)
Note: characters that are heavily injured may acquire corruptions. There will be heavy maiming.
EFFECTS LIST
- Black substance, both sticky and acidic
- A sticky substance that seems to cling to everything it touches, and is impossible to pull off. It melts through flesh, but the more it melts, the more it seems to become absorbed. Sufficient absorption of this substance in any capacity (skin absorption, digestion) will result in corruptions that may be permanent. May be removed by severing the affected area, or by bringing the affected area to the deadzone.
BOSS ACTION
The beast begins to reform in two—the two demons are now only made slightly smaller, perhaps 12 feet each instead of 15 feet. As it reforms, however, Amaranth will find her footing displaced: several tiny imp claws reach out to dig into her legs, as though actively trying to pull her into its mass. In the meantime, the demon rears its head to Cardinal and bellows, before leaping forward to start climbing the building they're on, to hunt them down.
The newly formed demon turns its attention to Griffin, arm shooting out to give him a quick pummel into the ground—except its fist divides into a hundred fists and a few grabbing claws, as though trying to pull him in at the same time that it tries to punch him. ]
PLAYER (RE)ACTION
Re: PLAYER (RE)ACTION
[ ...but there's hardly time to react before everything beneath her feet is a roil of movement.
She yells a battlecry, then drives her naginata into the gap between the demon's neck and shoulder, then uses it as a lever for herself as she sweeps her legs around in a whirling kick, aiming to dislodge as many of the teeming imps as she can.
results: both strike (1/3) and kick (3/3) are misses
dodge is success (6). ]
Re: PLAYER (RE)ACTION
Shit--!
[Red Queen's engine is already hot, but he fights the grip of dozens of hands to grab onto her handle again. Another rev to fully fuel her and-- he stabs the sword into the demonic mass, the blade coated in flames. MAYBE FIRE IS THE ANSWER
hit 4, damage 5]
Re: PLAYER (RE)ACTION
[They've managed to load another round, they get off two shots at the thing's face - both 1:3. As it closes the distance, Cardinal swings their rifle aside and summons a spear - less to throw it and more to let the thing impale itself.
hit 3, damage 5]
BOSS REACTION
Cardinal can see just as the bullets are flying, the demon's face creating a hole for which the bullets to go through before properly rematerializing. In doing so, however, it's completely blind to the spear that's summoned—just like Amaranth's naginata, however, it seems to be trying to pull the spear into its body.
In the meantime, Griffin has successfully set the demon on fire. It does not seem to be reacting well to that, as it is, you know, completely fucking on fire and bellowing in pain. Perhaps fire is, in fact, the answer??? ]
BOSS ACTION
Amaranth's naginata is pulled from her, or more accurately she's pulled with the naginata, as many more hands reach out to try clawing bits of her flesh away—this time, at least one manages to grab a fistful each from her arms. The beast screams once more, and at this proximity it's loud enough to be painful to both Cardinal and Amaranth—they'll find themselves deaf in one ear when the ringing fades—and it strikes out toward Cardinal, at least two hands managing to grab them to pull them closer, as though to try to absorb them the way they're trying to do to the weapons. ]
PLAYER (RE)ACTION
Re: PLAYER (RE)ACTION 1/2
[WOW! NOT IDEAL!!! It's time to not be in the clutches of this morphing hundred-hand smoke demon!
Through an involuntary scream of pain, he reaches a hand out to materialize a sword far out of its reach-- and is pulled to it at top speed, blasting the hands off him and splattering a long trail of blood from his neck.
When the sword's in his grip, he immediately stabs himself straight through to heal.]
Re: PLAYER (RE)ACTION done
IT'S TOO BAD THEY BOTH WHIFF LIKE MASSIVE CHODES
HIT 1
HIT 1]
Re: PLAYER (RE)ACTION
When the blade is planted, Cardinal screams a warning at Amaranth to brace herself as the feint warpstrikes to the blade.]
Re: PLAYER (RE)ACTION
[ The imps' claws dig deep gouges into the bark on her arms, but it reforms just as quickly. And then the gods-damned beast bellows, and she can't help but let out an augh of pain as she feels something in her right ear burst, and then the warm trickle of blood down the side of her neck.
And still she's being dragged in.
Well fucking fine, then. With one hand she roughly yanks a small pouch off her belt, pouring a mixture of seeds—briar roses and camellias and amaranths—into the demon's widening wound.
She gives the naginata one final yank, trying do do as much damage as she can while she frees herself. And then she makes those seeds grow.
(( idk how many of these need to "hit" but I'll just roll it and you decide:
I ROLLED 2D6 TWELVE TIMES FOR THE SEEDS AND I'M GONNA RIOT:
3/6, 1/4, 2/3, 3/5, 1/6, 3/5, 2/4, 3/4, 1/2, 4/5, 1/4, 2/6
removing naginata: 5/6
defense, generally: 3 )) ]
BOSS REACTION
It's too bad about the imp claw that digs into Amaranth's leg, and therefore dragging Amaranth down to hit the ground with it. The beast itself dissolves into smoke upon collision, which leaves Amaranth without even the cushion of the enemy under her right at impact when she hits the concrete below. ]
BOSS ACTION
Alternatively a mom or two may come save this son from his eaten-by-imps fate. ]
PLAYER (RE)ACTION
Re: PLAYER (RE)ACTION
Does this deter him?
STILL NO
and yet it really should have? He tries to fire off another volley of crossbow bolts, but the blood in his eyes makes it hard to aim.
hit 3s across the board folks]
Re: PLAYER (RE)ACTION
Carrying herself with Nightingale's wind doesn't do nearly as much when she's being literally dragged along by something else's gravity; she feels her shoulder crunch horribly as she hits the concrete.
But she screams in fury rather than pain when she sees what she's arrived to. ]
Griffin! [ heat of the moment; default name. sorry son boy. ]
I'm coming!
[ She skates low along the ground, carried again by wind and petals, though her right arm hangs limp at the shoulder, and (POSSIBLY MORE, TBD). But she doesn't need aim to cut off the demons' sight (to the extent that they still count as one creature, threatening to absorb him).
Then she uses the force of the wind itself to launch itself into the fray, naginata whirling the petals around her as it moves.
(( defense, generally: 4
blinding: n/a?
whirlwind strike: 5/5 ]
Re: PLAYER (RE)ACTION
Cardinal vaults upward, hitting the top of the draft leaping to bring their sword piercing down into the nearest monster. 6/6 ]
END
Amaranth's and Cardinal's blows strike true: they can feel the weight of demon mass cut, and see as the four bodies completely poof.
Though you didn't come out of it uninjured, you defeated the demon. Still, you can see the dark smoke still in the ambient air, heavy like fog. It is, perhaps, less than comforting.
But take your moment of victory. ]
Re: END
My honored brethren,
We come together
To unite as one
Against those that are damned.
We show no mercy,
For we have none.
[It's now as powerful as other banishment spells, but it manages to suck up some amount of smoke. Once done, he destroys the circle with a kick of his boots, and slips his wireless headphones back on, fiddling with them to make sure they weren't broken in the fight.]
Re: END
Well.
[ Her intonation is flat, and her voice is a bit rough after that fall. There's still a faint trickle of blood from one ear. ]
That was fun.
[ Her acid-eaten shirt chooses this moment to lose any remaining structural integrity, falling away from her chest. The trousers don't look like they're faring much better.
At least Juniper Tree is still up, but soon she'll be.............. bark naked. ]
Re: END
[He's... turning slightly pink and looking AWAY from her, bark be damned, staring is improper.]
Better gear up for more.
Re: END
[ a pause, wincing ]
My shoulder is, to put it mildly, fucked.
And I've got to get this stuff off me—it's only a matter of time before it eats through the bark faster than I can regenerate it.
[ One small upside: the tarry blood is mostly just on her arms now, the rest shedding with her disintegrating clothes. So much for dignity; at least she's always liked her figure. ]
Re: END
They would love to appreciate the sight, but...]
Let's get that junk off of you quick, Amaranth.
Re: END
It didn't like fire much, but I'm not too sure 'bout trying to burn it off you...
