Amaranth: A Dream

Once, there was a maiden...

...whose battles called her far from home.
She slew the thing she feared most, and conquered the land that feared her.
As she fought, far away, she knew her children needed guidance.
She knew they faced tyrants.
She knew they faced fear.
In her homeland, things were broken.
So, she held up her hand before the sun, and cast a shadow on the world, and drowned the troubles of her home in darkness.

"Survival's a long reach," she said.

[ she eyes the shrine thoughtfully as she passes, but if there's no way across she'll continue on into the village, leaning first to examine the flowers. would the types be recognizable to someone who's read up on plants ]

[ There's no way across, at least not without being a very strong swimmer. Probably better not to risk it. However, upon closer inspection, it looks less like there's the beginnings of a bridge here, albeit one that has been left incomplete. Specifically, there are two stone posts here, each well-maintained and engraved with a design showing seeds that grow into blooming trees.

The wildflowers are easy to identify! Why, there's lavender, and coriander, and amaranth, and iris—
Actually, some of these definitely shouldn't be native to this area. But if she keeps looking, Aradia can find instances of flowers from every LiliS member, past and present, along the path and even in the town proper. ]

[ ^ someone who cannot swim at all, let alone strongly. She'll have to put a pin in that one.

But the flowers are lovely, even moreso as she puts their appearances to what she remembers from her readings; with that filed away, she'll head on into the village proper to look around at the people and get a feel for the place. ]

[ It seems there's a market today! There are fathers holding their children's hands as they walk to the market, sometimes joined by mothers as well. A few guards are posted, but they seem notably relaxed, as if their presence is mostly a formality.

The people here are generally dark-haired, but skin and eye color varies greatly. Also, almost all of them are really tall—generally in the range of 5'8"-6'5", with a few even taller.

One of the guards calls out to you with a polite bow as you pass by, her smile familiar. ]

Good morning, Lady Aradia!

Oh!

[ if it's amaranth's mind, then maybe it makes sense that constructs of it would recognize her? still, it throws her briefly, but there's still only one way to respond to something like that. ]

Um - good morning! How are you doing...?

As well as ever, my lady.

I trust the same is true for your own household? If you see your mother-in-law today, I hope you'll pass along that my comrades and I look forward to the next time she joins us on the battlefield.

[ At this, the aforementioned comrades elbow the guard a bit, teasing her fondly about her eagerness to "lose to the General." ]

Mm. Thank you; everyone's doing well there, too ...

[ tucking a strand of hair behind her ear idly, glancing at the guard's face - endeared, ]

Of course I'll let her know, but -

[ a bit playful, some fond teasing on her end too, ]

If it's that you want to spar with her, or anything else like that, then I'm sure she'd be really happy to meet you - you know...?

Ah, well— [ the guard flushes, a bit ]

We're all really grateful for the time she spends training with us, too. I'm sure it's thanks to her that we have this safety and peace.

there's a look distinctly as if she'd love to press that further and/or fluster her more, but ]

Mother-in-Law really is wonderful, isn't she...?

But if it's okay, could I ask you a question?

Oh, of course!

[ The guard stands at attention. Despite her height, she's pretty young isn't she? One of her comrades, a woman with iron grey hair and an easy smile, steps forward. ]

Just let us know how we can help, my lady.

Of course.

We have everything we need here.

But thank you, my lady.
